As everything in our homes and businesses is becoming more connected, having a reliable router is now something of high importance. Sometimes we don’t even realize how many devices we have connected in our home or business.
There are all the obvious devices like computers, smartphones, tablets, and gaming consoles. But what about the appliances? Things like the air conditioner, the fridge, and even the robot vacuum cleaner. It seems everything needs a Wi-Fi connection these days!
So, let’s go through our in-depth Asus RT-AC68U AC1900 Review and see if it can handle the requirements of today’s connected world…
The Asus RT-AC68U is a typical rectangular box shape that stands up on its longest side using a built-in stand. This has become almost standard now, as it offers two functions. Freeing up desk space and increasing airflow to keep operating temperatures down.
Along the front of the router is a fancy decorative diamond pattern. Emblazoned above in gold is the ASUS logo. We think it looks rather sharp, breathing a bit of character into what is essentially a small plastic box.
More cool design features…
On the very top of the device are three multi-directional antennas. We think some antennas can look rather aggressive and tacked on. ASUS has managed to make these functional yet also blend in with the rest of the device.
Across the front at the bottom are ten LED status lights for WAN, LAN, power, wireless bands, and USB. Instead of that green color we’re so used to; they light up a nice shade of blue. Still noticeable, but we feel easier on the eye.
Setting Up the Device
We could almost call this device plug and play. Obviously, that’s not entirely possible with setting up a router, but this is as close as it gets. Once you connect the LAN cable from the router to your PC, the software automatically begins.
Speaking of the software, this is some of the easiest and most well-designed we have ever used for setting up a router. The quick start guide works remarkably well and is a simple process to follow for people of all knowledge levels.
Helpful software features…
Once you have set a password to access the router’s interface, it detects the WAN connection. It automatically sets SSIDs and encryption. Of course, if you like to provide your own settings, this is all possible too.
We particularly like the feature that allows you to copy all of your settings from 2.4Ghz to 5Ghz. All it takes is one click in a checkbox, and it’s done.
Interface And Settings
As we already mentioned, the software is some of the best we’ve seen for a router. The interface is both clean and straightforward to navigate. You could easily be forgiven for thinking you’ve just launched a video game.
The homepage displays useful items clearly. These include devices connected to the network, wireless network details, and WAN status. There’s also a network map showing each connected device’s name and IP address.
Further settings are easily accessed through the interface menu system. QoS, Firewall, and Security all have their own area for you to explore and adjust. Or if you’re unsure, just leave them as they are.
It’s also possible to manage your connected USB devices through the interface. What’s even more impressive is that this can also be controlled using an app called AiCloud. The app is available for either Android and iOS.
There are some basic parental controls, but nothing as extensive as some of the other routers on the market. Even though the controls are limited to basically two different functions, they do work very well.
The first is a time limit function that can be set for a particular device. The other is a content blocker. This works by entering a keyword or URL. For example, if you entered TikTok, not only will the app be blocked, but any links to it as well.
Reading specs can be tedious. So, we’ve put together a few details that we think you might find critical or useful. Basically, a few of the items we think are impressive and make this router stand out from the others.
Up to 30 devices can be connected to this device at the same time comfortably with a stable connection. As we said in the beginning, we easily forget how many devices might be connected and operating simultaneously.
Going the distance at speed…
Coverage can be up to 3,000 sq feet (914 sq meters). For regular-sized homes, this means you can access your device both from inside and outside. For businesses, you may have access from both the office and the shop floor without needing multiple devices.
With its maximum data transfer rate of up to 1900 Mbps, smooth gaming and 4K streaming are both made possible. This also provides a fast, reliable solution for business needs.
If you have a larger home or run a business that requires multiple routers, control is made easy using the AiMesh app. Available for iPhone and Android users, it provides an easy-to-use interface for setting up and maintaining the network.
Having such a user-friendly and easy to access interface is sure to make life easier. Compatible with most other Asus routers, it’s now possible to be your own IT network expert.

The interface makes it stand out over other competitors due to its ease of use and clean design. All this while still having advanced settings accessible and easily available. The app support for additional functions is another reason we would consider this router over others.
