1 Drop ALT Mechanical Keyboard – Best Value 60% Mechanical Keyboard for the Money

When talking about mechanical keyboards, Massdrop is a name that many enthusiasts speak of. Nowadays, they are more commonly known as DROP, but it was once a proxy for group buys. As they became immensely successful, they were able to start their own keyboard line.

The ALT mechanical board is the brand’s version of the 60% keyboard, and it can easily be considered one of the best in the market. Not to mention, it also has a decent price tag.

High-profile or low-profile design…

It’s available in two versions, either a high-profile or a low-profile design, depending on your aesthetic preferences. The price difference between the two is quite significant. The keycaps are nice two-toned Doubleshot shine-through with clear and simple legends.

You can choose between Blue or Brown Cherry MX switches with RGB or get the Halo True and clear switches. Unlike other mechanical boards, the Massdrop ALT is a hot-swappable keyboard, meaning you can easily remove the switches without having first to desolder and solder them back.

But that’s not all…

It supports 3-pin or plate-mounted switches, so if you are looking to replace the switches, you need to keep this in mind. Another thing to keep in mind is that the right shift key is smaller. It’s not uncommon for smaller boards to have smaller keys, but you should know about it.

Compact layout…

The ALT mechanical has a USB-C port on the top left and right side for added connectivity. One downside is that the board requires a lot of power, so it may not work if you change to a different power cable. The ALT is the CTRL board little brother and has a compact layout with 67 keys.

There are no fn keys, but it does include shortcuts and secondary layers that provide functionality. It also has a full set of arrow keys.

Built to last…

The frame is made of anodized aluminum, making it solid and robust. The keyboard is fully programmable via QMK so that you can assign macros or custom keybinds to every key. The RGB lighting is also customizable, and you can choose between millions of colors and combinations.

The QMK doesn’t require you to download any software because you can edit everything from the DROP configurator on the website.

Our Verdict?

Used by professional programmers, the DROP ALT is one of the best 60% keyboards on the market. It’s fully programmable via QMK and has an unbelievably durable aluminum frame. Hot-swappable switches and full of features, the ALT mechanical keyboard is the first option that should come to mind if you’re a dedicated gamer.

A couple of things make the Ducky One 2 stand out, and one of them is its unique style. It comes in a wide variety of options, switches, and sizes. The Ducky One 2 is equipped with Cherry MX switch stabilizers and customizable RGB lighting. You can even change the colors of the keycaps. The keys are responsive, and the board has an overall good build quality. There are seven different switch types available: Cherry MX Red, Blue, Brown, Black, Silent Red, Silent Black, and Speed.

But you should know…

The Ducky One 2 also includes a generic-looking USB-C cable. But since it’s detachable, it can easily be replaced. Unfortunately, the Ducky One 2 is a wired keyboard and can’t be used wirelessly. 5 ANNE PRO 2, 60% Wired/Wireless Mechanical Keyboard – Best Mid Range 60% Mechanical Keyboard

The Anne Pro 2 is a real crowd favorite and one of the most popular 60% mechanical keyboards currently available. One reason for its being so popular is that it comes with a built-in battery that lasts up to eight hours on a single charge and Bluetooth 4.0. You can also use the keyboard while plugged, and it doesn’t require connecting via Bluetooth. To save battery, it also has an auto-sleep feature.

Features a sleek design…

The Anne Pro 2 is very well built, and the sleek design looks great. Despite the plastic frame, it still feels solid, and the PBT keycaps have a nice matte finish. The keys have a slight wobble to them, but you will hardly notice it when typing. They are doubleshot, shine through, and the legends will never fade even after many years of usage and wear.

Each key is programmable and comes with individual RGB lighting, which is customizable. Several available Gateron switches are available for the Anne Pro 2, with varieties of Cherry MX and Kailh switches.

Gateron switches are considered a top-tier “copycat” of the Cherry MX switches. Most users have come to terms with this and respect the Gateron switches as an entirely unique switch that lives up to the original Cherry MX’s expectations.

But there’s a catch…

The downside of the Anne Pro 2 is the mediocre ergonomics and its lack of incline options. It also lacks a palm rest, and since it’s a bit smaller than the average key size, some people may find it hard to use.

The standard 60% keyboard layout…

The keyboard is available in both black and white, and it features a standard 60% keyboard layout so that you can change the keycaps without any problems. It also includes color keycaps for you to play around with and improve customization. The keycap puller makes switching easy.

The weight is sturdy and well-built, although it’s still highly portable. While the bezel look is very classic and repels hair and dust, unlike the floating keycap designs. The software is easy and intuitive to use without having too steep of a learning curve. It can also reassign functions and keys.

Specifications

  • Color: Black/White
  • Connections: USB, USB-C
  • Number of Keys: 61 keys
  • Brand: ANNE PRO
  • Dimensions: 11.18 x 3.82 x 1.57 in
  • Switches: Gateron or Kailh

Our verdict?

The Anne Pro 2 Mini is one of the best quality 60% mechanical keyboards we tested. It has an excellent sleek design and is relatively easy to use. Typing on it feels great, and it works equally great for gaming as well. The Gateron switches are just as good as the original Cherry MX, and it has Bluetooth, so you can choose if you want a wireless or wired connection.

ANNE PRO 2, 60% Wired/Wireless Mechanical Keyboard

Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • PBT keycaps.
  • Bluetooth wireless option.
  • Smooth Gateron switches.
  • Great customization.
  • Convenient one tap arrow keys.
  • Classic look with bezels.

Cons

  • No arrow keys.
  • Small size.
  • No kickstands for angle adjustment.

6 RK ROYAL KLUDGE RK6 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard – Best Rated 60% Mechanical Keyboard

Moving on through our review of the best 60% mechanical keyboards, we have the RK Royal Kludge RK61. If you like compact, affordable, small form designs, this might be the ideal keyboard for you. It comes in two color variations, either black or white. There is also a Pro version that includes a few innovative design features.

According to the latest gaming industry standards, it will be perfect for those of you who spend six+ hours in front of your computer daily!

We got blown away…

The first feature that blew us away is the different switches that play a significant role. The brown switch is a more balanced and tactile switch for gaming, and they have a small bump so you can feel the feedback when pressing a key.

What else?

The red switch we found was the smoothest of the three. It is perfect for everyday use, and the blue switch was clicky and loud and not something we would recommend for gaming, even though some people may prefer it. It’s better for office and typing work.

You should also keep in mind that the 61 keys are set into a mini form on the keyboard. Like many of its relevant competitors, it doesn’t have a numerical pad or the F row. It still has the Fn key and the designated letter keys that allow you to add the functions of the missing features.

Choose between wired or wireless connections…

One of the main features of the RK61 is that you can choose between wired and Bluetooth connections. The wireless connection only works with Windows, iOS, and Android, while the wired works with all operating systems. The RGB modes offer a choice of 18 presets, or eight monochrome backlights and one that offers full color.

Our only real concern is that it’s not as portable as many of the other keyboards. It’s a lot heavier than it looks. It’s still more portable than full-sized keyboards, though, which makes it a reliable and functional choice for your travels.

Specifications

  • Color: Black/White
  • Connections: USB, USB-C
  • Number of Keys: 61 keys
  • Brand: RK ROYAL KLUDGE
  • Dimensions: 11.4 by 3.9 by 1.7in
  • Switches: Gateron

Our verdict?

If you’re opting for an entry-level 60% keyboard, the RK61 is a great choice. This wireless mini keyboard offers reliable connectivity and low latency for fast-paced action. If you’re ready to show ’em who’s boss, go for this responsive gaming peripheral, and leave your opponents scrambling for cover.

RK ROYAL KLUDGE RK6 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Comes at an affordable price point.
  • Highlighted by dual-mode connection.
  • Features 61 anti-ghosting keys.
  • Comes with a versatile RGB backlight system.

Cons

  • A bit heavy for a 60% keyboard

7 DIERYA DK63 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard – Best Budget 60% Mechanical Keyboard

Keyboards come in a variety of types, including full-size, TKL, and 60%. The latter option is becoming more and more popular, especially for people that don’t have as much desk space. Bearing this in mind, the DIERYA is an excellent choice.

It’s available in a few variations, including brown, red, blue, black, and the popular Cherry MX design; it’s a small-form product that you will immensely enjoy!

We always like reviewing products from newcomers…

DIERYA has only been around for a couple of years and has already grown quite a fair fan base. This is because they focus on customer satisfaction, pleasing aesthetics, and functionality. Additionally, buying this keyboard will not break the bank, which is a huge plus, and it doesn’t miss out on any of the innovative design features of the high-end keyboards.

It has a very reliable RGB backlight system as well as a dual-mode connection. You can also connect this keyboard to several devices, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, PlayStation, and the Nintendo Xbox One consoles, which adds to the value.

Connect through USB or Bluetooth…

You can also connect it using a USB cable or activate the Bluetooth mode for wireless connection. This means that you can use the keyboard from your sofa while enjoying your favorite game.

To change to the wired connection mode, you need to press the Fn and R buttons. To get back to Bluetooth 4.0, you need to press Fn, as well as R/Q/E. Keep in mind that it can’t connect to the PS4 with Bluetooth mode.

Exactly how you like it…

The RGB backlight system is highlighted by seven different colors and a variety of breathing modes, which you can customize according to your preference. They include purple, blue, yellow, red, green, light blue, and white.

Once again, the function key and up and down arrows play a massive role in determining the brightness and breathing mode.

ABS construction and ergonomic keypads…

It lacks a numerical pad and the F row. Instead, it features a quality ABS construction accompanied by ergonomic keycaps, which should reduce the overall fatigue that gamers often feel in their wrists, shoulders, and fingers.

The Deyira runs on a rechargeable 1900mAh battery that you will need to plug in every 100 hours of continuous use. Even though it’s not the most powerful battery, it does the trick.

Specifications

  • Color: Black/White
  • Connections: USB, USB-C
  • Number of Keys: 63 keys
  • Brand: DIERYA
  • Dimensions: 13.31 x 5.51 x 1.81 in
  • Switches: Outemu

Our verdict?

If you enjoy gaming on multiple platforms, or you’re simply a hardcore gamer who likes Flappy Bird on the side? Don’t worry; we won’t say a thing. Whatever the case, the DIERYA DK63 has your back. It’s an ultra-compact and portable 60% keyboard and features everything you need for multi-platform gaming. It’s an excellent choice for most gamers.

DIERYA DK63 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Our rating:4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • Great price con the build quality.
  • Dual-mode connection.
  • Great overall compatibility.
  • Ergonomic keycap and full-ABS design.

Cons

  • The battery could be better.
  • Key-caps slightly wobble.

8 Vortexgear Pok3r – Best 60% Mechanical Keyboard for Twitch

One of the neatest things on the Vortexgear Pok3r is the design. It has an elegant aluminum bezel frame with a black-on-black theme, allowing the RGB colors to stand out while using the keyboard. It’s also equipped with a plate between its PCB and Cherry MX switches, which adds an extra layer of rigidity to the board.

The Pok3r became popularized by gaming streamers on Twitch, making it well known and a worthy competitor to the Anne Pro 2 and Ducky One 2 Mini.

Laser-etched PTB keycaps…

Since the keycaps are laser-etched PBT caps, they offer a premium and durable feel, and the board includes a selection of Cherry MX switches ranging from blue, brown, clear, red, Silent red, and silver. One thing that we are missing on the keycaps is the keycap puller. But instead, it has the advantage of including several RGB modes that don’t require any software.

The board incorporates the floating keycaps, allowing the RGB to shine quite brightly. It also boasts excellent macro support, even though it can be quite challenging in the beginning. Each key can execute 32 keystrokes, and you can program up to three layers.

What else?

Since the board includes a DIP switch, there’s no need to convert the Caps Lock into an Fn key, as you can easily swap between the keyboard layouts. You can even program each key color in addition to the preset modes.

Micro USB instead of the standard USB-C…

The Pok3r comes with a detachable micro USB cable and not the standard USB-C. It also has grippy pads underneath to stop it from moving around. The white backplate, which in our opinion, doesn’t look that great when the lights are turned off, but with the RGB turned on, the white plate reflects the light and makes the board look amazing.

The second layer includes the arrow keys and is located on I/J/K/L. It also has integrated secondary media functions.

Specifications

  • Color: Black/White
  • Connections: USB, USB-C
  • Number of Keys: 61 keys
  • Brand: Vortexgear
  • Dimensions: 11.60 x 4 x 1.4in
  • Switches: Cherry MX

Our verdict?

Looking to pull an ace out of your sleeve? The Vortexgear Pok3r keyboard all but guarantees the upper hand. The Pok3r is a rock-solid 60% keyboard that handles all the fundamentals with ease, has solid stabilizers, a super sturdy case, and offers an overall excellent typing experience.

It goes hand-in-hand with the Ducky keyboards in terms of key feel and performance, and we wouldn’t hold it against you if you prefer the Pok3r over the Ducky.

What else do you need to know?

Like the Ducky keyboards, the Pok3r is only programmable via the keyboard, which makes changing many things on the board a bit of a hassle, but it’s an excellent option for gamers, as we have seen on Twitch.

Vortexgear Pok3r

Our rating:4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • Premium look due to the aluminum frame.
  • PBT keycaps.
  • Cherry MX switch options.
  • Programmable layers.
  • Secondary media keys.
  • Convenient location of arrows.

Cons

  • No kickstand.
  • Micro-USB cable instead of USB-C.
  • Loud stabilizers.
  • White backplate with an all-black design.

60 mechanical keyboards

Wired vs. Wireless

Some of the best 60% keyboards come in wired and wireless configurations. Wired keyboards require a direct line to your computer’s USB port, while wireless ones use 2.4GHz or Bluetooth to connect.

Both types have their pros and cons, but wired keyboards offer greater consistency and faster response times. While wireless boards are often more portable, and you don’t have to rely on a direct connection. If you are gaming for fun, you can choose a wireless model, but if you’re looking for the greatest competitive edge, select a wired model.

Switches

The mechanical springs underneath each keycap are called switches, and they vary in tactility. Topre and Cherry MX switches are the best ones, but with premium quality comes a premium price tag. Fortunately, smaller brands like DIERYA have stepped up their game in recent years. Nowadays, you can find a great board with switches from Outemu, Gateron, and other similar brands.

Aesthetics

If the board doesn’t look cool on your desk, what’s the point? Think about your ideal color scheme and what matches the rest of your setup. There is no need to compromise, as there are plenty of options, black, white, silver, and two-toned keyboards.
