Best A3 Printers In 2023 – Top 5 Rated Review

Top 5 Best A3 Printers In 2023 Review

1 Epson WorkForce WF-7710 Wireless, All in One, Wide-format, Color Inkjet Printer – Best All in One A3 Printer

The guys and girls over at Epson have pulled out all the stops with the fabulous WorkForce WF-7710. This all in one Inkjet impressed us in more ways than one.

Tell us more…

This offering has some of the more impressive printing speeds, produces excellent quality prints and photos, and has genuine all in one capability!

In terms of the pages per minute output, we clocked the Epson WorkForce WF-7710 at an average of 19 in black and white and 10 in color. Truly impressive, but that’s not all. The print shop quality, borderless prints have a maximum DPI of 2400, and the scanning quality is up there with much higher priced, professional units.

As this is our first offering, that DPI number may be a bit abstract, but take it from us, this is a beast of a printer.

Build quality…

The build quality is about as good as it gets for home printers. We have been using this one in the office for the last three months with zero issues. From user reviews online, we can see that the Epson WorkForce WF-7710 very rarely has any problems, even after years of usage.

The ink costing is more than reasonable, with the Epson 252 and 252XL cartridges both being just under mid-priced. Electricity usage is also fair, with Epson making leaps and bounds in the past few years to reduce their environmental footprint.

And we haven’t even mentioned the screen!

That’s right, the inbuilt touch screen works an absolute treat, even with our stubby little fingers. It has a nice intuitive feel to it and is super easy to navigate.

Overall a great unit, and one that is more than worthy of our recommendation.

Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

  • Top-notch printing and scanning.
  • All in one capability.
  • Decently priced ink.
  • High-speed printing.

  • Large footprint.
  • Single tray.

2 Epson Stylus Photo R1800Inkjet Printer – Best A3 Printer for Photo Prints

With the Stylus Photo R1800, Epson has given consumers the opportunity to print truly exhibition quality, long-lasting color photo prints. But this printer isn’t just for photos.

Oh yeah?

Indeed, the Epson Stylus Photo R1800 is capable of printing almost any type of document you need and does so with superb resolution and beautifully balanced color.

The included UltraChrome Hi-Gloss ink set has six (that’s right, six!) inks; magenta, yellow, red, cyan, and blue, plus your choice of either photo black or matte black. Both these blacks are included in the unit, and you can easily decide between the two at any time.

There is an eighth tank that holds a “gloss optimizer coating,” which helps cancel out the tendency of blacks to fade quickly after drying when printing photos. Plus, this individual tank setup helps to reduce overall costs when replacing the ink.

Impressive stuff…

Epson claims that photos printed on this unit will last anywhere between 100 to 200 years when displayed in the right conditions, a bold claim for sure but one that is backed up by research from Wilhelm Imaging Research.

In terms of speed, this is one of the faster Inkjet printers we have tested thus far. If you need to pump out prints quickly then, this could be the one for you.

A superb overall option…

If you are looking for a pure large format photo printer, then there are one or two competitors that could possibly out mark the Stylus Photo R1800. But, if you are looking for one of the best overall A3 printers available right now, and one that can produce some of the best photo prints on the market, then we think this is the perfect printer for you!

Epson Stylus Photo R1800Inkjet Printer

Our rating:3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5)

  • Amazing print quality.
  • Fast running time.
  • Relatively cheap ink options.
  • Small footprint.

  • Ink nozzles may need maintenance.

3 Canon PIXMA Pro9000 MarkII Inkjet Photo Printer – Best A3 Photo Printer

Next up in our best A3 printers review, we have the Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II, and what a superb printer it is! Coming in slightly cheaper (but not by much) than the Epson Stylus Photo R1800, this again is marketed as a “photo printer.” But this time, it truly is designed for photos and not for routine printing jobs. To keep it competitive, Canon has included the option of printing onto CDs and DVDs.

Starting with the negatives…

The one big drawback we found with the Pro9000 Mark II was black and white printing. There are no grey cartridges, which means that you sometimes get some unwanted color casts, and B&W can be a little dull. Printing in this mode is also painfully slow.

But, with the exception of this single downside…

Still, this is a beast of a printer. The output of color landscapes, especially on high gloss paper, really is something to behold. Bright, bold, and vivid, with fantastic detailing to match. Printing times here are up there with some of the best on show.

Overall, this is a great A3 photo printer. Easy to use and setup, variable usage options, and better than expected print quality (possibly the best high gloss color printing available for this price). Ink prices are also extremely competitive.

Canon PIXMA Pro9000 MarkII Inkjet Photo Printer

Our rating:4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

  • Amazing high gloss color printing.
  • Fast running time in color mode.
  • Cheaper than most competitors.

  • Lacking when it comes to B&W prints.

4 Brother MFC-J6545DW INKvestmentTank Color Inkjet All-in-One Printer – Best A3 Printer for Office

If you are in need of an all-in-one, tabloid-sized printer that isn’t going to break the bank, then the Brother MFC-J6545DW INKvestmentTank might be the one for you! This particular unit does a great job of not only printing high-quality documents but also scanning, copying, and faxing them if need be.

Brother has done a great job of creating a machine that can be integrated into both a home office or a more professional setting, with functionality and connectivity options galore! On offer are Ethernet, WiFi or USB connection options, and seamless integration with third-party mobile apps such as Google Cloud Print, Mopria, Brother iPrint&Scan for Android, and Apple AirPrint.

How about printing speeds?

Great news here with massive outputs available! For monochrome, it topped out at around 22 pages per minute. In color mode, it only dropped to 20 pages per minute, which is fantastic when compared to other similar priced units.

The quality of text documents produced here is second to none. Laser printers are known for usually topping out the charts when it comes to text quality, but the Brother MFC-J6545DW is somehow able to deliver an almost LaserJet like finish, even though we have InkJet tech here.

Long term savings…

And as the name suggests, the ink setup here can save you a bunch of money in the long run. For color balancing, it does a pretty good job as well.

Our rating:4.3 out of 5 stars (4.3 / 5)

  • Top-quality text printing.
  • Low running costs.
  • All in one.
  • Perfect for an office environment.
  • Cheap to buy.

  • No auto duplexing.

5 Canon Pixma iX6820 Wireless Business Printer – Best Budget A3 Printer

We couldn’t round out this list without throwing in at least one truly budget offering.

But make no mistake!

Just because this is a lower end unit does not mean that it’s not worthy of its spot here! With the Canon Pixma iX6820, the behemoth electronics company has given us a reliable, solid machine that produces top quality printing at a fraction of the price of many of its rivals. It’s even able to make incredibly great photo prints!

As we mentioned earlier, this is a solid unit. It’s not light, nor is it small. But it’s not flimsy either, with a feeling of robustness that many similarly priced units lack.

Other great features…

Another huge plus that stands it apart from its rivals is the use of five individual color ink cartridges as opposed to the traditional black and tri-color cartridges. This gives two clear advantages; first up, it makes color printing much more detailed and true to life, and secondly, it can be a huge money saver on ink.

Canon has also included a second black cartridge called “Pigment Black.” This also gives two pros, with extra black ink always available and blacks being printed as dark as possible in text and photos.

Not a sprinter…

In terms of printing speed, this is not the fastest available on the market but still holds its own with an average of 13 pages per minute for monochrome. Color printing times can vary, but the results are surprisingly good for such a low-cost unit.

Canon Pixma iX6820 Wireless Business Printer

Our rating:4.3 out of 5 stars (4.3 / 5)

  • High-end quality prints.
  • Strong and robust design.
  • Low-cost ink options.

  • No duplex printing available.

Best A3 Printers Buyers Guide

Brother MFC-J6545DW INKvestmentTank Color Inkjet

Types of printers

There are two main types of printers, InkJet or LaserJet. They both come with inherent advantages and disadvantages, and depending on the kind of output you want from your A3 printer, one or the other may suit you better.

As a general rule, InkJets are better for more sporadic home usage, whereas LaserJets are more suited to a high volume environment.

Although, LaserJets have much higher running temperatures, so if you’re looking for a printer that will be able to handle multiple types of mediums (such as vinyl), then an InkJet might be a better option.

The total cost of the printer

When considering which printer is right for you, you should first have a think about the total cost involved. Unlike many other consumer electronic products, the cost of a printer will be more than the original purchase price.

Electricity usage is definitely something to consider, but ink type and usage will be much more critical when trying to find any printer’s total cost. Consider all your options before settling on the ideal A3 printer for your purposes.

Frequency and type of usage

Are you looking for just an A3 printer? Or would buying an “all in one” printer, one that offers not only top-quality printing capabilities but also the option to scan, photocopy and fax, be a better choice for you?

Image quality, resolution, and speed

Here you are going to want to look for a printer with the highest number of pixels per inch (PPI) or dots per inch (dpi) that fits within your budget. The two terms are not interchangeable, but you may see either in the marketing of printers.

DPI refers to the number of printed individual dots contained within one inch of an image printed by printers. PPI refers to the specific number of pixels found within one inch of an image displayed on a computer monitor.

As a rule of thumb…

The minimum DPI should be above 300 and the minimum PPI above 1200 for good results.

Image quality is also affected by the type and amount of ink cartridges or setup. Top-end units may have as many as 12 cartridges, but that may be overkill for your purposes. Manufacturers will ALWAYS suggest that you use their ink instead of third party options for the best results. This may be true under a few circumstances; however, it is certainly up for debate.

Finally, the speeds…

The speed of printing can be a deciding factor, depending on how you want to use your new A3 printer. If you’re going to print in a professional environment, you will very likely need a much faster printer than someone looking for an at-home setup.
