Starting us off, we have the exceptional Brother Monochrome All-In-One Laser Printer MFC-L5900DW. This super speedy, multifunction unit has one of the fastest printing and copying speeds on the market.

With a whopping 42 PPM and a great resolution of 1200 x 1200 DPI, it might be the fastest laser printer on our list.

But speed is not the only pro for this unit!

Among its list of box-tickers are a 70-sheet ADF (automatic document feeder) and a large legal-size flatbed. Both are available for scanning and copying while providing great text quality and a large range of connection options.

Plenty of connections…

The Brother MFC-L5900DW can connect to any computer through your choice of USB, Ethernet, WiFi, or WiFi direct (if you have a compatible device). This last option is also great for connecting straight from your phone or tablet.

Support for apps such as Google Cloud Print, Apple AirPrint, and the Brother iPrint&Scan app is available. And the built-in 3.7-inch color touchscreen makes checking print status and changing settings extremely simple.

Quick and easy…

2 HP LaserJet Pro M426FDW All-in-One Wireless Laser Printer – Best Wireless Dual Tray Laser Printer

Next up, we have the HP LaserJet Pro M426FDW, an MFP (multifunction printer) that boasts one of the most feature-rich setups out of all the monochrome MFPs available right now!

What features are we talking about?

Well, for starters, HP have added every connectivity option you could ever want. The printing speed is faster than most of its competitors, and the automatic duplexing works quickly and seamlessly!

Paper holding capacity for print jobs is suitable for a small or home office and will do the trick for larger workgroups in most instances. The printer comes stock with a 250 sheet drawer, plus a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and an automatic duplexer.

Add more sheets when you need to…

And on the off chance that you need more holding capacity, you can add an auxiliary 550-sheet drawer. As a result, this pushes the maximum holding capacity to 900 sheets! That means that it’s one of the best large capacity laser printers around.

Although the output did not score as highly as some of the other dual tray printers we reviewed, it still did a pretty great job. We found that most fonts were legible down to either five or six font sizes, which is not bad at all.

Convenient connections…

For connection options, HP have come with the trifecta of USB, Ethernet, and WiFi. Meaning all your bases are covered for any situation.

Whether simply plugging in via Ethernet or using WiFi direct, this printer will connect to any device quickly and with minimal effort. You will be seeing the results in no time at all!

3 Canon Maxify Office and Business MB2720 Wireless All-in-one Printer – Best Budget Dual Tray Laser Printer

So far, we have looked at purely monochrome printers. But what if you want a full-color dual tray printer and one that won’t put too much of a dent in your pocket? Look no further than the Canon Maxify MB2720!

Bad news first…

First up, although duplex printing and scanning are available, there is no duplexing automatic document feeder. This means that you will have to manually refeed prints back through for double-sided scanning. Although duplex printing is still automatic.

Secondly, WiFi direct is nowhere to be found. These are the only features that we noticed missing, so depending on what you plan to do with the printer, they may be of little concern to you.

Let’s get onto the good stuff!

The Canon Maxify MB2720 provides strong paper handling. Capable of 500 sheets, shared between two 250-sheet trays that hold any paper size up to legal.

Furthermore, it offers fast printing speeds with 38 PPM for monochrome and 15.1 PPM for full color. Therefore, you get high-quality, smudge-proof clear laser text with great results for both B&W and color jobs.

Decent connectivity…

The MB2720 can connect to a network via Ethernet or WiFi, and directly to a computer via USB. It is also Apple Airprint and Google Cloud Print compatible, as well as having use of Canon’sCanon’s own ““Canon Print app””.

For the price, this might be the best dual tray laser printer on the market. If not, easily one of the best low cost laser printers we have seen.

4 Epson WorkForce WF-7720 Wireless Wide-format Color Inkjet Printer – Best Wide-Format Dual Tray Laser Printer

Have you been hunting for a dual tray laser printer that can handle oversized paper? One that can print in both monochrome and full color? One that can not only print, but also scan, copy, and fax?

Well, look no further!

The Epson WorkForce WF-7720 ticks all those boxes and more. This unit has three paper trays to accommodate almost all the paper types we can think of. Additionally, it supports full automatic duplex printing and scanning of all sizes up to 11 x 17 inches. It can print on paper up to 13 x 19 inches and has a bunch of connectivity options.

The large 4.3-inch color touch screen is the best of the bunch we have reviewed in this list. The settings are well laid out, and the UI is very easy to navigate.

Print speeds…

A little slower than some of the competition, but still more than acceptable at 18 PPM for monochrome and 10 PPM for full color. This slight lack of speed translated into some of the best quality monochrome prints we have seen, with four point fonts coming out as clear as day.

We tested full color with photo printing, and although this does not stand up to more specific photo printers, the end products were still more than acceptable.

What about connectivity?

All the usual suspects are found on the Epson WorkForce WF-7720. USB, Ethernet, WiFi, and WiFi direct are all available. Connecting to any document or photo editing app is quick and easy.

This robust unit is a hard one to beat. And it certainly qualifies as one of the best all in one laser printers available.

5 Brother HL-L3230CDW Compact Digital Color Printer – Best Value for the Money Dual Tray Laser Printer

Rounding us out today, we have the Brother HL-L3230CDW, our only dedicated printer on the list. Sure, this lacks the functionality of an all-in-one unit, but this means it doesn’t have the size and weight that many multifunction units do.

Built for text…

If quality text output is what you need, then this may be the machine for you. Both monochrome and color outputs are truly first class. Easily an option for the best color laser printer for home use.

Photos rival much higher priced dedicated photo printers, and the monochrome text output is something any company would be proud of.

Speed and loads…

Speeds do not match those monochrome printers we reviewed earlier, but this is no slowpoke either! We clocked it at an average of 24 PPM for monochrome and 22 PPM for color.

The main tray can hold up to 250 sheets of A4 paper, with the second drawer being used for any other sized paper job (envelopes, checks, labels, stickers, etc.)

No surprises when looking at connectivity options…

On offer is the usual USB, Ethernet, WiFi, and WiFi direct. All the apps that you ever want to connect to are supported. Plus, the Brother iPrint&Scan app works a treat making mobile usage super simple.

Best Dual Tray Laser Printer Buyers Guide

Monochrome or Full Color?

This one is pretty simple. If all you need is a basic setup for printing invoices, receipts, etc., then you can save some cash by choosing a simple B&W printer. If you want a machine that can give you way more options, then we suggest a full-color dual tray printer.

Ink and Toner Costs

The number of ink cartridges the printer uses, and the type of in these cartridges hold, should factor heavily into your final decision. The TCO (total cost of ownership) can vary widely once ink and toner prices are taken into consideration.

In general, we suggest going for higher numbers of cartridges if color precision is important for your job at hand. But, the higher the number of cartridges, the higher the ink cost will be.

Resolution

Once again, more is better. As a minimum, you should be looking for a dual tray printer that has a resolution of 1200 x 1200 DPI unless you are looking to do low-level printing jobs.

Connectivity

USB connectivity is key, and thankfully these days, all the best dual tray printers come with at least one USB port. But if you are looking for easy connectivity in an office environment, then we suggest a unit that has an ethernet port and wireless connectivity.

With an ethernet port, you can plug directly into any router. This makes connecting to any computer on the network super easy.

When looking at wireless options, make sure it has an 802.11n specification. And if mobile connectivity is of a high priority, then look for a dual tray printer with WiFi direct capabilities.

Functionality

If all you need is the best dual tray printer, then the choice is easy. But say you want more functionality – such as scanning, making copies, or sending and receiving faxes?

Then you should consider an all-in-one multifunction laser printer that can perform these tasks. There’sThere’s a bunch of options on the market right now.

Ease of use

Touchscreens. They are everywhere these days – pretty much standard for phones, tablets, and even laptops – so why not printers also?

The best dual tray printers all come with at least a small touchscreen as standard. This makes menu navigation much simpler, saving you time and possible frustration.

Size and Installation

Depends on whether you are looking for a printer for the office or home. Office printers are often much bulkier than what we want for the home, but this isn’t always the case.

As a rule of thumb, we think going for the largest printer (with the most functionality) that will easily fit into the space available is your best bet.

What is The Best Dual Tray Laser Printer?

There was a fair bit of debate around the office over this one. Some people argued that we should always recommend an MFP, while others thought that we should pick one without taking multifunctionality into account.

In the end, we went with the…

Brother HL-L3230CDW

The only dedicated printer listed on here. The output quality is just that good! That’s not to say any of the other contenders wouldn’t do the job, especially if you are looking for an all-in-one option.

Until next time, make the most of your office space.
