Best Gaming Monitor Under $300 In 2023 – Top 5 Rated Review

1 AOPEN 24MX1 bii 24-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) Gaming Monitor with AMD Radeon FreeSync Technology

If you haven’t already heard of AOPEN you may be living under a rock. The Tawainese based company has been around since 1996, but burst onto the scene a decade ago when they started offering low-cost screen options.

Feature-packed…

The 24MX1 bii Full HD monitor has a lot going for it. First up, the 24 inch, 1920 x 1080p TN panel delivers super-crisp images with true to life colors with a top-notch amount of detailing. And the industry standard of 250 cd/m^2 for brightness ensures minimal reflection issues.

For inputs, you get two HDMI ports and one VGA port. The 75Hz refresh rate is a little lower than other offerings on this list, but don’t let that fool you into thinking that this screen is unworthy of its place here.

Smooth as silk…

With a 1ms response time and the inclusion of AMD Radeon FreeSync Technology, this is one of the smoothest screens available for less than $300. AMD Radeon FreeSync Technology was first released in 2016, and it played a hand in revolutionizing Full HD monitors. Designed to essentially remove any visual artifacts that occur when the graphics card’s frame rate becomes out of sync with the display’s inbuilt refresh rate.

The result is a much more polished and enjoyable gaming experience. With added extras like 6-axis color adjustment and AOPEN Eye Protection games and movies come to life, and overall eyestrain is reduced by up to 65%.

Great time to buy…

And all of this for considerably less than $300, with great deals available on this screen right now. So, if this sounds like the screen for you, check it out!

2 AOC CQ27G1 27” Curved Frameless Gaming Monitor – Best Affordable Curved Gaming Monitor Under $300

The AOC CQ27G1 is one of the most affordable 27 inch curved screens available at the moment. And while we think that curved screens for televisions are a bit of a useless gimmick, with gaming screens you are situated much closer to the actual panel – the curved screen here really adds to the immersive quality.

AOC have gone with a VA panel – this provides a high static contrast ratio of 3,000:1 and amazing color reproduction (true 8-bit color depth and wide 122% sRGB color gamut) at the cost of the viewing angle. To be honest, this didn’t bother us much as we are always straight in front of the screen when gaming anyway.

Ok, but what makes this screen suitable for high-end gaming?

For starters, the ridiculously quick response time of 1ms coupled with the 144Hz refresh rate results in crystal clear motion. And with the support from AMD FreeSync Premium, the display and GPU are synched to help reduce stuttering, tearing, and input lag.

The AOC CQ27G1 has a nice range of I/O solutions. For consoles, there are two HDMI 1.4 ports. There is also a DisplayPort 1.2 port for your computer and a VGA port for older devices.

And we haven’t even mentioned the resolution!

This is a Quad HD resolution 2560 x 1440p panel, meaning you get four times the resolution of standard 720p HD. A Quad HD, 27 inch widescreen, gives a heap more detail and crispness than most Full HD users are used to. Whether you are gaming, streaming your favorite series, or editing videos and photos, the CQ27G1 provides the goods!

So, if you have never experienced the fun of a curved gaming screen, click here to see what all the fuss is about!

4 Sceptre C305B-200UN 30-inch Ultra Wide 2560 x 1080p Curved Gaming Monitor – Best Value for the Money Curved Gaming Monitor Under $300

This absolute beast of a monitor comes in with the widest girth out of all the offerings on today’s list, with dimensions of 21:9 inches. That equates to 30 inches of super immersive, curved screen space with ultra-HD 2560 x 1080 2K Resolution.

And there are so many more reasons to love this monitor!

The fact that the C305B-200UN is blessed with the inherent benefits of a VA panel (the best overall handling of contrast and color of the three different panel types) means that the stage is set for a great overall monitor, and that is exactly what we have here. Over 90% of the SRGB color gamut is covered.

The refresh rate is next-level, topping out at 200Hz when using the DisplayPort. That’s more than double the standard refresh rate and ensures that you stay ahead of the game in every gaming situation. This is coupled with AMD FreeSynch, which enables super smooth and seamless sequences in the fastest-paced situations.

Boost your gaming experience…

The FPS (first-person shooter) and RTS (real-time strategy) inbuilt display presets, have been included to boost the gaming experience. And the automatic blue light filter does a fantastic job of dramatically reducing overall eye stress. For inputs, there are three HDMI ports and one DisplayPort, leaving all modern bases covered.

The tiltable display offers a wide range of seating options to ensure that every user can perfect the viewing angle. There is a handy Vesa compatible wall mount chucked in, and the built-in speakers do a surprisingly great job!

Highly desirable…

This is possibly more desirable than our other curved entrant, the AOC CQ27G1. And at just a fraction more, you get a larger display and a much higher refresh rate.

5 LG 27UK650-W 27-Inch UHD (3840 x 2160) IPS Monitor with Radeon Freesync Technology – Best 4K Gaming Monitor Under $300

Now we might be cheating just slightly with this one. Although it’s currently sitting at a whisper above $300, we have seen it dip below that number in recent months. And we just couldn’t let it slide by without so much as a mention.

Why you ask?

Simple. Even though the LG 27UK650-W monitor comes in at the most expensive on the list (and not by much), it’s quite possibly the best value out of the whole bunch! The 27 inch IPS panel comes with true 4K 3840 x 2160p resolution. That also happens to be double what you get with the Spectre, and the difference is instantly noticeable.

If you haven’t yet had a chance to use a 4K display, then just take it from us when we say the clarity and precision is truly breathtaking. The internal Color Calibration helps maintain accuracy through the 98% sRGB range. And the wide viewing angle afforded by IPS screens has never been more on display.

Made to game…

Gaming targeted features include the all-new ‘Black Stabilizer’ that LG claim will drastically improve the chances of your seeing hidden enemies, plus similar presets for FPS and RTS game genres that we saw in the previous entry.

To sum up, the LG 27UL500 is our number one low priced 4K IPS monitor. It delivers an excellent gaming experience without becoming bloated with useless features. So, if having 4K resolution is important to you, then we suggest you click here to take a deeper dive into the LG 27UL500 and see if it is the right monitor for you!

Best Gaming Monitor Under $300 Buyers Guide

It’s important that you have all the information you need to make an informed decision on which monitor is best for you before you go and spend any of that hard-earned cash of yours. And, while most consumers are pretty switched on to what factors and specs are important, finding the right screen can still be quite an ordeal.

Best Gaming Monitor Under $300 Buyers Guide

Panel

There are so many options on the market right now that choosing the one for you can be a little confusing. But let’s quickly go over the three main types – TN (Twisted Nematic), IPS (In-Panel Switching), and VA (Vertical Alignment)

  • TN Panels

These are older tech but still highly sought after by gamers as they produce the fastest refresh rates and have the best pixel response. These features mean that TN are pretty well suited for gaming. One of the main downsides to these panels is color-shifting. This can become a problem when the screen is viewed from outside the working angle of view, although this is never an issue when viewing the screen from directly in front.

  • IPS Panels

These give far greater viewing angles and color reproduction than TN screens. This makes IPS panels a favorite among professional video and photo editors, and are great for movie and single-player gamers who want to enjoy the full spectrum of colors on offer.

  • Vertical Alignment Panels

These are universally praised for the high contrast ratio that they offer. This type of panel provides the deepest blacks and intense, true to life colors. However, the downside is that excessive ghosting can sometimes be an issue.

Screen size

Best Gaming Monitor Under $300 Rating

This is the specification that is going to be most affected by personal preference, as there is no real industry standard. Some people like huge screens, while others prefer a more compact system.

We usually recommend something between 21 and 24 inches. We find screens larger than 28 inches make it hard to view the whole picture while still being able to focus on the small stuff. And any screen below 21 inches is in danger of not being able to properly display everything happening on screen.

Response time

Response time refers to the time it takes for your monitor will respond to inputs. A lower response time is always better. This is a highly important factor when considering which gaming monitor to buy, as screens with the lowest response rates will give the smoothest picture. Anything below 10 milliseconds is adequate, but a response time of 1-2 ms is ideal.

Refresh Rate

The refresh rate of a screen refers to how many times per second a monitor is capable of refreshing an image. Anything below 60 Hz is simply not worth your time, with 144Hz being preferred by gamers. A 144Hz screen will give an obvious advantage over an opponent using a 60Hz screen, with 144Hz being much more closely matched to how our brains interpret signals. Essentially, the higher the number, the better!

Input and Output Ports

Top gaming screens need to have multiple connectivity options. More than one HDMI port is always a plus, with all great gaming monitors offering both Displayport and DVI connectivity. We also like to see more than four USB ports.

We’ve come to the end of our review, and what exactly have we learned? Firstly, it is easier than we thought to find a bunch of great gaming monitors for less than $300. But harder than were expecting when having to cut the fat and present the best five.
