1 Gigabyte B450M DS3H – Best Budget Motherboard for Ryzen 5 3600

We start with an entry-level motherboard designed for users who don’t like to spend a fortune on a board and aren’t too concerned about overclocking. If you plan to run your CPU at stock clock rates, the Gigabyte B450M DS3H is an excellent choice since it doesn’t support overclocking. It’s built for budget-friendly Ryzen APUs, but you can also use it with Ryzen 3000 series CPUs.

It’s not a high-end motherboard, and we wouldn’t recommend it for high-end builds because it can limit your processor’s performance.

Excellent design circuit-like patterns…

Design-wise, the B450M DS3H is stunning, with a black PCB base and a grey striped circuit-like pattern emerging from the board’s corners. The four DIMMs allow you to install DDR4 memory up to 64GB of RAM in dual-channel mode and at the speed of 3200MHz.

The board has two PCIe x16 slots that support AMD Crossfire, meaning you can install multiple graphics cards but lack SLI support. There are four SATA 3.0 ports, three of them which support RAID 0, 1, and 10 arrays, and one SATA PCIe 3.0 x4/SATA M.2 slot for high-speed NVNe modules.

Good variety of ports and connectivity…

The rear I/O panel has four USB 3.1 Gen1 ports and four USB 2.0 ports. The display capacity is adequate, including HDMI and DVI-D for multiple displays. No motherboard is complete without audio cards. The B450M has excellent audio capacitors and an audio noise guard that gives you a cinema-like sound experience when connecting good speakers.

When LED strips were introduced in the PC setup, they took the market by storm, and the B450M DS3H includes RGB fusion. The RGB LED strips can illuminate in seven different colors. The summer months can get hot, depending on where you live, so Gigabyte included a smart fan five on the board. The fan automatically detects any heating problems and keeps the MOBO cool.

2 MSI B450 Tomahawk Max – Best Affordable Motherboard for Ryzen 5 3600

MSI B450 TOMAHAWK Max is another motherboard for the Ryzen 5 3600. It’s one of the most affordable motherboards, and it’s better than the Gigabyte B450M DS3H, at least when it comes to the VRM and overclocking.

For starters, the Tomahawk is an arsenal range motherboard packed with features usually found in premium motherboards. We have yet to find another motherboard that offers the same features for this price and category. It has integrated customizable RGB lights and two USB 3.2 Gen1 ports with a transfer rate of 5Gbps.

128GB of RAM…

Most B450 chipset boards support up to 64GB of RAM, but the B450 Tomahawk Max supports up to 128GB of memory at a base clock speed of 2666Mhz and is overclockable to 3600Mhz. The connectivity options are great; even if it’s not comparable to the x470 boards, it still provides a wide range of ports and slots. Apart from the two USB 3.1 ports, the rear I/O panel has several USB 3.1 Gen2, USB 2.0, and Type-C ports.

It also includes six SATA 3.0 slots and one M.2 slot for NVMe SSDs. MSI B450 Tomahawk Max supports first, second, and third-generation Ryzen graphics cards. It’s best compatible with Ryzen holding Radeon graphics and the second-generation AMD Ryzen with Radeon graphics. It’s also perfect for running Athlon with Radeon Vega Graphics desktop processors for the AM4 socket.

Excellent Audio boost…

The Tomahawk Max also comes with an Audio boost that acts as a dedicated sound card. The sound it produces is pure, and the audio signals are distinguishable from each other, even though they are quite similar. This is especially helpful when gaming as each sound effect has a crisp sound and high-quality.

There are, however, a few downsides. The lack of a second M.2 slot is an issue, especially when several boards offer it. Another thing is that the RGB headers aren’t individually controllable, which would have brought more flair to the motherboard.

Specifications

  • Motherboard: MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
  • Form factor: ATX
  • Color Scheme: Black/grey
  • Memory: 128GB 2666 MHz
  • RAM DIMMs: 4
  • Ports: 5x USB 3.1, 1x Type-C, 6x USB 2.0, 6x SATA 3.0
  • Slots: 5x PCIe, 1x M.2

3 MSI X470 Gaming PRO Carbon – Best MSI Motherboard for Ryzen 5 3600

If you are looking for something more than a B450 chipset and you’re willing to spend a bit more money, you can go with an x470 motherboard. The main reasons for choosing an x470 over the B40 is the added connectivity and high overclocking powers.

Is it the best choice for gamers?

If you’re a gamer looking for the best MOBO to match the Ryzen 5 3600, then the X470 Gaming PRO Carbon is the best choice. This best gaming motherboard has four DIMMS that supports 128GB of memory at 3200Mhz. It also has various boost options for gaming. The game boosting software helps with overclocking and is easy to use. The Gaming PRO Carbon also includes gaming hotkeys that aren’t found on many other boards.

The X-boost and Xsplit Gamecaster are two exclusive features allowing you to enjoy your gaming even more. They boost your gaming experience to new levels. With all these premium features, it’s pretty evident that the Gaming PRO Carbon comes with a premium price tag; therefore, this board isn’t recommended for budget or entry-level builds. The aesthetics are plain, but the RGB lighting gives it a great look in modern builds and cases.

Specifications

  • Motherboard: MSI X470 Gaming PRO Carbon
  • Form factor: ATX
  • Color Scheme: Black
  • Memory: 128GB 3466 MHz
  • RAM DIMMs: 4
  • Ports: 9x USB 3.1, 1x Type-C, 6x USB 2.0, 8x SATA 3.0
  • Slots: 5x PCIe, 2x M.2
  • Crossfire, SLI: Yes, Yes

What’s our verdict?

The X470 Gaming PRO Carbon has a good VRM and supports SLI. But all these features bring the price up, and it’s pretty expensive. Not a board we would recommend if you’re on a budget.

Connectivity and storage options are plenty as you get multiple USB and SATA ports. The controllers are high-quality, which adds to the cost, but the board has excellent audio and networking capabilities. It is one of the absolute best motherboards for the Ryzen 5 3600.

4 Gigabyte B450 AORUS PRO WIFI – Best Gigabyte Motherboard for Ryzen 5 3600

Next in our Best Motherboard for Ryzen 5 3600 reviews, the B450 AORUS PRO WIFI from Gigabyte is another high-end motherboard. You may not face any compatibility issues with this board, but it’s limited in overclocking due to the B450 chipset and VRMs.

The design is nice and has a black base with grey details, and it also has integrated RGB lighting. Apart from the looks, it performs like an x470 board, and it goes very well with the Ryxen 5 3600.

The four DIMMS are overclockable to 3200MHz…

The B450 AORUS PRO WIFI has four DIMMS, allowing you to install up to 64GB of RAM at a base clock of 2666Mhz, but it also supports high OC memory up to 3200MHz. Storage options include six SATA 3.0 ports and two high-speed M.2 slots for NVMe and Wi-Fi cards.

Connectivity options are quite limited and only include one USB 3.1, one Type-C, and four USB 2.0 ports. It has a Gigabit network and Realtek audio controllers, which are a bit expensive for a mid-ranged build, but it adds to the board’s performance.

But, there’s a catch…

The price is not very budget-friendly for a B450 board, and there are x470 or even x570 chipset boards available for the same price. It also offers limited overclocking abilities because of hardware limits and the voltage regulators. They also placed the primary M.2 slot under the GPU, which is pretty much the hottest place close to the expansion slots, which is understandably not the best location.

Specifications

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 AORUS PRO WIFI
  • Form factor: ATX
  • Color Scheme: Black/Grey with orange Lights
  • Memory: 64 GB 3600 MHz
  • RAM DIMMs: 4
  • Ports: 1x USB 3.1, 1x Type-C, 4x USB 2.0, 6x SATA 3.0
  • Slots: 4x PCIe, 2x M.2

5 ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus – Best ASUS Motherboard for Ryzen 5 3600

The ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming is the fifth motherboard in our list that supports Ryzen 5 3600. It’s a motherboard that, considering the price, brings superb features. The VRM is similar to ASUS higher-end motherboards like the X570E, making it an excellent choice for the Ryzen 5 3600 if you don’t want to spend too much money.

Keep your cool…

The VRM has a 12+2 configuration with doubling that increases stability, and it’s covered with decent heatsinks. The configuration is good enough for overclocking the Ryzen 3600, giving you a helpful performance boost in gaming. It has enough features to fulfill almost anyone’s needs and requirements to complete day to day tasks.

It has two M.2 slots for NVME SSDs. One slot is located below the second PCIe x16 slot and is covered with an aluminum heatsink.

Packed with premium features…

The AM4 TUF Gaming includes a small fan present on most x570 boards and helps keep the chipset’s temperature to a decent level. This is a bit controversial, though, since the motherboards can malfunction if the chipset fan stops.

Six fan headers, including the CPU fan header, should be enough to power all the fans in your chassis, and you could use a splitter or a fan hub if you use more than six fans. The motherboard also comes with Debug LEDs located at the top right side. We haven’t seen any other motherboards in the same price range that include this feature.

Excellent connectivity and RAM…

The four DIMMs support up to 128GB at a clock speed of 4400Mhz, while there are two PCIe 4.0 X16 slots and two PCIe 4.0 X1 slots. For storage, there is a total of eight SATA 3.0 ports.

The I/O ports on the AM4 TUF Gaming differ as well. It has six audio ports, including an optical audio port, one LAN port, six USB 3.2, one USB 3.2 Type-C, one HDMI, one DisplayPort, and a PS2 port.

Specifications

  • Motherboard: ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus
  • Form factor: ATX
  • Color Scheme: Black/Grey
  • Memory: 128GB 4400 MHz
  • RAM DIMMs: 4
  • Ports: 6x USB 3.2, 1x Type-C, 8x SATA 3.0
  • Slots: 4x PCIe 4.0, 3x M.2

Cons

  • Doesn’t support SLI.
  • No built-in Wi-Fi adapter.

6 Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite WIFI – Best Mid Range Motherboard for Ryzen 5 3600

This is the second motherboard from the Gigabyte lineup. The X570 AORUS Elite WIFI offers, apart from the same features as the B450 board, some added premium features. Aesthetically this board looks the same as the B450. But the audio and networking controllers equipped on the X570 are some of the best in their class. They are from trusted companies, but unfortunately, they affect the total price of the board.

The board has four memory slots that allow for 128GB at a base clock of 2133MHz but is overclockable to 4400Mhz. Storage options are good with six SATA 3.0 ports and two M.2 Gen4 slots with a transfer rate of 64Gbps. Several USB 3.2 Gen2 ports are present and four USB 2.0 ports.

Premium features…

Gigabyte included every premium feature they could on the X570 AORUS Elite WIFI, but it still seems to miss some basic features like a USB Type-C port and Debug LEDs that solve pre-boot errors and which is seen on other boards of this standard.

A price cut would be appreciated as it currently looks a bit overpriced, but it’s still affordable compared to other top-tier boards.

Specifications

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite WIFI
  • Form factor: ATX
  • Color Scheme: Black, Grey, Orange Led
  • Memory: 128GB 4400MHz DDR4
  • RAM DIMMs: 4
  • Ports: 4x USB 3.0, 4x USB 3.1, 2x USB 2.0, 6x SATA 3.0

  • Crossfire, SLI: Yes, Yes

What’s our verdict?

With all the included features, the Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite WIFI has everything you need for a mid-range gaming rig. The VRM has a 12+2 design, and all the phases are using doublers. It’s capable of overclocking and is one of the best fits for the Ryzen 5 3600 if you have a mid-range budget for your build.

Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite WIFI

Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Includes I/O cover.
  • 14 Phase design VRM.
  • 4400MHz memory support.

Cons

  • Lacks USB Type-C
  • Expensive.
  • No Debug LEDs.

7 MSI B450M Gaming Plus – Best Value for the Money Motherboard for Ryzen 5 3600

The B450M Gaming Plus from MSI is a microATX motherboard. It supports a maximum of 32GB RAM but is the right choice for a budget build, and it matches well with the Ryzen 5 3600. Even though it’s an mATX, it has a few premium features. The X-boost feature automatically identifies what type of storage device you use and works to boost that device’s performance. It also has a core boost feature for multiple cores and enhances performance.

The B450M Gaming Plus also includes the EZ Debug LED, making the troubleshooting process so much easier. The board itself is quite simple without LED lighting, but it has an excellent red and black color scheme. There are a couple of things to be aware of, though, such as a lack of space, especially with the air coolers.

A little tricky…

The A4 socket has excellent overclocking potential, even though it can be a little tricky to master. The board has 4 USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI port, and one DVI port when it comes to connectivity. Four SATA 3.0 ports and 1 M.2 slot provide good storage options, but it only has one PCIe x16 slot, which means it doesn’t support multiple GPUs.

Specifications

  • Motherboard: MSI B450M Gaming Plus
  • Form factor: micro-ATX
  • Color Scheme: Black, Red
  • Memory: 32GB
  • RAM DIMMS: 2
  • Ports: 4x USB 3.0, 4x SATA 3.0
  • Slots: 3x PCIe 3.0, 1x M.2
  • Crossfire, SLI: No, No

Is it the Best Motherboard for Ryzen 5 3600?

The MSI B450M is a reliable choice if you want a quality Micro-ATX board. It’s both affordable and offers adequate performance through the AMD chipset. The only downside is the size, but it’s a great choice if you’re going to build a small gaming system using the Ryzen 4 3600 processor.

MSI B450M Gaming Plus

Our rating:4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • Affordable.
  • Debug LEDs.
  • Great performance.
  • Very good for a micro-ATX.

Cons

  • Lack of space.
  • No DisplayPort.
  • Only one M.2 port and one PCIe x16 slot.

8 MSI B450I Gaming Plus AC – Best Rated Motherboard for Ryzen 5 3600

The B450I Gaming Plus AC is one of our favorite mini-ITX boards for the Ryzen 5 3600. It can host powerful CPUs while providing necessary functions. However, you don’t get as many ports and slots as you would from other motherboards.

For starters, it only has two DIMM slots, leading to a maximum capacity of 64GB. The VRM heatsink and the M.2 heatsink have red-colored lines combined with the black heatsinks give a powerful feel to the board.

Limited ports and slots…

It only has a single PCIe 3.0 slot, which is reinforced with metal. This, unfortunately, means that you can only use one graphics card and no other PCIe device. There is also only one M.2 slot present and four SATA 3.0 ports, while most ATX boards have six or more SATA ports.

Still, four SATA 3.0 ports should be enough for modern mid-range builds. As for the I/O ports, there are three audio ports, six USB 3.0, one HDMI, one DisplayPort, and one PS2 port. The audio uses the Realteck ALC887 Codec, which is the most common audio chipset in motherboards. It only has two fan headers, which is somewhat disappointing; however, a mini-ITX case doesn’t have many fan mounts.

A heatsink that does its job well…

The VRM of the board is good enough to overclock the Ryzen 5 3600 but might struggle if you opt for the Ryzen 9 CPUs.

Luckily the 3rd generation CPUs are exceptionally energy-efficient; otherwise, the board couldn’t handle 16-core processors. The large heatsink controls the temperatures on the VRM.

Specifications

  • Motherboard: MSI B450I Gaming Plus AC
  • Form factor: mini-ITX
  • Color Scheme: Black, white, and red
  • Memory: 64GB
  • RAM DIMMs: 2
  • Ports: 6x USB 3.0, 4x SATA 3.0
  • Slots: 1x PCIe 3.0, 1x M.2
  • Crossfire, SLI: No, No

What’s our verdict?

The B450I Gaming Plus AC’s aesthetics are good enough for most people, and the thermal performance is satisfactory. Paired with the Ryzen 5 3600, the B450I Gaming Plus performs excellent, and the price is very affordable. The lack of slots and ports is noticeable but keep in mind that this is a mini-ITX board, so you shouldn’t expect more.

MSI B450I Gaming Plus AC

Our rating:4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • Budget-friendly.
  • Mini-ITX motherboard.
  • Nice colors
  • Wi-Fi support.

Cons

  • Not so good for overclocking.
  • Only 1 PCIe slot.

Best Motherboard for Ryzen 5 3600 Buying Guide
