1 Epson EcoTank ET-2750 – Most Economical Ink Printer for Vinyl Stickers

Purchasing a printer is usually relatively cheap. Printer manufacturers typically make their money back by selling the replacement ink cartridges. Instead of using cartridges, this printer from Epson called the EcoTank uses bottled ink.

Not surprisingly, the cost of purchasing this printer, to begin with, is more than models with similar functions. However, for regular users, taking the ink efficiency into consideration, you will make this back rather quickly.

All the functions you’ll need…

The EcoTank doesn’t only print vinyl stickers; it can also copy and scan. It cannot also fax, although who still does that? There is a tiny non-touch color display front and center, which assists with navigating the menu system.

Paper capacity isn’t huge; in fact, the rear feeder can only accommodate up to one hundred sheets of plain paper or twenty sheets of photo paper. It is missing an ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) but can perform two sided printing thanks to the auto-duplexer.

Connection and performance…

Like most printers these days, you can connect to either your PC or smart device using Wi-Fi. There is no Ethernet option available, but you can connect via USB or SD card. During setup, you can assign an email address to your printer, so you can send jobs to it via email.

Printing text was fine, apart from if tiny fonts are needed. For graphics, some backgrounds were a little dull, and for photos, some suffered from a minor loss in detail. Overall though, the performance matched what you would expect from a local drugstore.

Epson EcoTank ET-2750

Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • Save big on ink costs.
  • Easy Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • SD card reader.

Cons

  • No Ethernet connection.
  • Low paper capacity.

2 HP OfficeJet 5255 – Best Printer for Vinyl Stickers with Ink Subscription

While the last printer offered an economical ink solution by using bottled refills instead of cartridges, HP has a different answer. The OfficeJet 5255 has a subscription service that will supply you with ink at a low monthly cost called Instant Ink.

A monthly fee is charged based on a prepaid number of pages. Starting at 50 pages per month, any unused pages roll over to the next month up to double your initial purchase. And the best part is that the printer automatically detects low ink and orders it for you.

Ready when needed…

Ready to print, scan, copy, and fax at a moment’s notice, the OfficeJet performs occasional printing tasks well. This time you do receive an ADF, but you lose the auto-duplexing for printing and scanning double-sided capability. You will have to flip it yourself.

In another trade-off, there is a larger touchscreen for navigating the menu system, but it is mono and not color. You have the option of navigating settings using the touchscreen or making changes via a web portal.

Print from anywhere at high quality…

Options for sending jobs to the printer include both USB and Wi-Fi connectivity. However, what sets this printer apart is the HP Smart App. Use your smart device’s camera to scan documents, send them to email or the cloud, and even use OCR (Optical Character Recognition).

We were pleasantly surprised by its print quality. The text was clear all the way down to 10-point. Graphics showed no signs of any banding or streaking, and photos had impressive detail with no graininess at all.

HP OfficeJet 5255

Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • User-friendly interface options.
  • Efficient, convenient Instant Ink program.
  • Impressive print quality.

Cons

  • No auto-duplexing.
  • Ink is expensive without the subscription service.

3 Epson WorkForce WF-7710 – Best Wide Format Printer for Vinyl Stickers

For those that need to print larger items, this wide format printer from Epson called the WorkForce might just be for you. This “Super Tabloid” printer is capable of performing borderless prints of up to 13 x 19 inches (33 x 48 centimeters).

It can also scan, copy, or fax tabloid size, which is 11 x 17 inches (28 x 43 centimeters). You will receive a 10% discount if you use Smart Reorders for your ink supply too. Not quite as generous as the first two products, but still an excellent way to save some money.

Plenty of features…

Keeping paper supplies full is handled by a tray at the front of the printer. It can accommodate 250 sheets of plain paper. In addition, you also receive a 35-sheet ADF with auto-duplexing for double-sided scanning and printing.

An attractive 4.3-inch color touchscreen panel provides access to functions via the intuitive menu system. We found the screen to be responsive, and being larger made selecting the correct options much more manageable.

Performs above expectations…

This is the first product here to offer Ethernet connectivity. There are, of course, still USB and Wi-Fi options. Epson goes even further still by offering NFC, Wi-Fi Direct, Email Print, Remote Print, iPrint, Cloud Print, Apple Print, and Google Cloud Print.

Print quality was better than we expected. Fonts were clear and legible from 6-point and upwards. Graphics showed minimal banding on darker areas and slight color shifts on lighter areas. Photos had very accurate colors, but the overall quality was a little dull.

Epson WorkForce WF-7710

Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • Wide format “Super Tabloid” printing.
  • ADF and auto-duplexing.
  • Huge range of connection options.

Cons

  • Relatively low capacity paper tray.
  • Ink costs can become high.

4 Canon Pixma iX6820 – Best Dedicated Printer for Vinyl Stickers

While all the other products so far have been all in one printers, the Canon Pixma is a dedicated printer. The advantage here is that the entire focus has been placed on its print capabilities rather than other areas such as scanning or copying.

The Pixma is capable of printing up to super tabloid-size, measuring 13 x 19 inches (33 x 48 centimeters). That makes this printer great for printing vinyl stickers, as often larger sizes are required for marketing purposes.

Functions and features…

There is only a single paper tray available that can accommodate up to 150 sheets of paper. That means you will need to swap the paper type in the tray if wanting to go between tabloid, plain paper, vinyl, or envelopes.

Missing from this printer is both an ADF and auto-duplexing. So 2-sided prints become a manual task of having to flip the pages yourself. Another omission is an LCD screen, and you must rely on LED status lights instead.

Connection support…

Besides the regular USB and Wi-Fi connection options that are now expected with printers, besides Ethernet, you do get some additional options. Support is offered for Mobile-Print capabilities, Cloud-based printing, plus AirPrint support for Apple users.

Print quality for both text and graphics was acceptable without being a standout. It was the photo printing where this machine performed best. The level of detail, along with vibrant colors, produced results better than what you’d expect from the drugstore.

Canon Pixma iX6820

Our rating:4.3 out of 5 stars (4.3 / 5)

Pros

  • Affordable option.
  • Print up to super tabloid size.
  • High-quality photo prints.

Cons

  • No ADF or duplexer.
  • No scan or copy capabilities.

5 Brother MFC-J805DW – Most Ink Efficient Printer for Vinyl Stickers

Back to the multifunction printers, and this machine from Brother uses a type of hybrid tank-style ink cartridge. In fact, with the included ink in the box, Brother claims that you will receive one year’s worth of printing at 150 pages per month.

Designed for either home use or small businesses, this machine is capable of low to moderate print and copy volumes. It is affordable and performs well, but does lack some features we’ve seen in other models.

Let’s see what this thing can do…

Being a multifunction printer, you have the ability to scan, copy, and fax as well as print. There is a 20 sheet ADF on top of the device, but it does miss out on auto-duplexing. Paper can also be fed through the 150 sheet tray underneath.

Menu functions are controlled using the navigation keys combined with a non-touch 1.8-inch color display. It is still easy to navigate, and if you prefer, you can still control all the functions via a web portal.

Communicate with your printer…

Ethernet connectivity is missing from this printer, but you do receive both USB and Wi-Fi connectivity options. Additionally, Wi-Fi Direct, Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, Mopria, and Brother’s iPrint&Scan App are all supported.

As far as print quality goes, the text is well-shaped and highly legible all the way down to 6-point. Graphics showed slight banding, but nothing too dramatic. Photo prints exceeded our expectations for an office style machine being both vibrant and detailed.

Brother MFC-J805DW

Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • Efficient ink system.
  • Borderless printing.
  • Above-average print quality.

Cons

  • No Ethernet capabilities.
  • Missing a duplexer.

6 Canon Pixma TR8520 – Best Small Business Printer for Vinyl Stickers

This is the second Canon Pixma printer we have featured here, and it’s a fantastic choice for home and small business printing. This is an attractive printer that is compact for a multifunction device packed with features.

Unlike other printers that use four ink colors, the Pixma uses five. In addition to your regular cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, there is what’s called pigment black. It is used to darken text and black areas in photos.

Well-fed printer…

Featured at the top of the printer is a 20 page ADF for sending multi-page documents to the scanner. You will have to flip the page yourself for double-sided, as there is no duplexer. Up to 200 sheets of paper can be shared between the cassette (100) and upright tray (100).

Apart from the power-on button, everything else is controlled by the 4.3 inch LCD color touchscreen. This is one of the brightest, most responsive, and easy to use screens out of all the printers featured here.

Print your way…

Canon has managed to offer basically every connection option possible in the Pixma. Included are Wi-Fi, Ethernet, PictBridge, USB port, SD card slot, and Bluetooth 4.0. Support is also offered for Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, Canon Print App, and Pixma Cloud Link.

Print quality for this printer is outstanding. Text is crisp, well-shaped, and easy to read. Printing graphics provided results that had flowing gradients and solid fills. For photos, we were blown away by the bright, vibrant, detailed, and accurate results.

Canon Pixma TR8520
