Top 8 Best Printers For Envelopes To Buy 2023 Review

Envelopes are not a new idea. The first record we have of them being used was in 2000 BC. The Babylonians produced a clay covering so that their tablets could be hand-delivered. A novel idea. But it wasn’t until the mid-1800s that it started to develop as a way of assisting the growing delivery of information.

Previous to that time, envelopes were hand made. Some publications list the invention of the envelope-making machine to the US in the 1850s. It was, in fact, a British invention patented in 1845 by Hill and DeLa Rue.

We have come a long way since then. It has changed shape, become more practical to use, and has gum applied for sticking. Some have tear-off strips for fixative. And now you can even have printers that will print your envelopes for you. Something that was always going to happen, of course, but took some time to work out. Some printers are better at this than others.

1 Epson WorkForce WF-7720 – Best Small Office Printer For Envelopes

This printer from Epson is an all-in-one inkjet printer. This will usually turn out to be a much more cost-effective way of printing than with laser printers. For smaller print runs, that is. The downside is, of course, that it is not so fast. For printing envelopes, though, that might not be that much of a concern, and it has several excellent features.

It will hold up to 500 sheets of paper in the input tray, and the output tray will take up to 125 pages. The automatic document feeder has a maximum load of 35 pages at a time.

Envelopes and thicker paper size or card is fed in through a specially designed feeder at the rear. Double-sided copying comes as standard.

Connectivity…

It has good connectivity options, including Ethernet, WiFi, and USB. It will also work with Apple AirPrint and Google CloudPrint. You can, therefore, operate the printer using a phone or tablet.

It has a touchscreen for easy operation that is 3.7 inches wide. It is perfect for printing those photos you want to expand. It will give you a borderless color print up to 13 inches by 19 inches, and it will scan up to a size of 11 inches by 17 inches. Copying is, of course, standard. Setting up is quite simple, but the fax email facility will need some patience as it is a little complicated.

We’d place it in a small office…

One thing to be aware of is that the Printer will only accept Epson cartridges when it is time to refill. If you are thinking about using cheaper options, we wouldn’t. It won’t accept them.

For home use, it is set at quite an expensive price point. For office use, it is a reasonable buy. It has a lot of features and handles the envelope print well.

Epson WorkForce WF-7720

Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros

  • Good features.
  • Plenty of print options.
  •  Efficient, easy envelope printing.

Cons

  • Installation of fax and email is a little time-consuming.

2 Brother MFC-J5830DW All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer – Best Economical High Volume Color Printer For Envelopes

Brother is of those printers that you go to when you want a workhorse printer at a reasonable price. Reliability is always crucial with printers, and that is what this printer offers. But in their design of this printer, Brother has given you a little more than just reliability and lots of features.

Economical for high volumes…

They give you an extremely cheap print option per page. It is an inkjet printer with a print speed of 22 ppm in black and white. For color, it is still a very acceptable 20 pages per minute. Each copy is going to cost you a lot less than many other models. For black ink printing, you can expect to get about three thousand copies before you need to replace the cartridge.

With color, the number is about 1500 as a minimum. That is a lot of printing for the cost of a cartridge. That makes this one of the most economical printers for turning out relatively high volumes.

As we said, an office workhorse…

The paper capacity, though, is a little lightweight as it only holds about 150 sheets. And there are no separate paper storage areas or extra trays, which is something to bear in mind. The envelope print can be done from the paper tray in reasonable, small numbers. However, the best results are when they are fed through one envelope at a time. For a long print run, that could prove time-consuming.

All-in-one…

All the usual features for an all-in-one machine are there with copy, print, fax, and scan. Connections are good with WiFi, and it can print from a USB drive. The touchscreen and controls are placed in the front and are another positive of this machine. They are clearly labeled and easy to use, and there is also a keypad which makes the use of the device very easy.

It also has duplex printing. The price point is set very competitively for business use, but it might be a little high for home use.

Time and money-saving…

It is a typical Brother machine with lots of useful features and a cost-effective way of printing massive amounts of copy. It certainly should be considered as one of the best printers for envelopes.

Brother MFC-J5830DW All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer

Our rating:4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

Pros

  • Lots of useful features.
  • Direct envelope feed.
  • Cost-effective printing.
  • Easy to use controls.

Cons

  • Price point is a bit high for home use.
  • Best results require direct feed.

3 Brother Compact Monochrome Laser Printer – Best Economic High Volume Monochrome Printer For Envelopes

Brother has always been well-known for making cost-effective printers. For a while, they were used mainly by consumers for home use. But now they offer serious machines for business use, and this is a good example.

This printer has an excellent performance level for printing envelopes. It has to be considered as one of the best business printers for envelopes, not only for its performance; there’s another reason.

 But more on that later…

It is a compact machine measuring only 14.2 by 14 by 7.2 inches and weighing less than sixteen pounds. It might be small, but it’s a printer that can produce high volumes of output. Being a laser printer, it will give you about 32 pages per minute. It is a monochrome machine, so just black and white printing, which suits many office applications.

Great for high volume…

It is cheap to run, and each toner refill should give you about 3000 pages of print, and its paper tray will hold a decent 250 sheets. The paper size is also varied, and it can print on Legal documentation and the standard sizes. Its most relevant feature, though, is that it can print a high number of envelopes, and it has its own manual tray for the envelope print.

Connections are good, and you can print from your laptop or via the USB. You can also use the built-in WiFi to connect to your phone or device. It has double-sided printing facilities and a manual feed slot.

Won’t break the bank…

We mentioned earlier another significant benefit to this machine, and that is the price point. For a machine working at this level, the price is more than attractive.

Brother Compact Monochrome Laser Printer

Our rating:4.3 out of 5 stars (4.3 / 5)

Pros

  • Decent print speeds.
  • Relatively cheap printing.
  • Quick and efficient job with envelopes.
  •  Attractive price point.

Cons

  • Monochrome only.

4 HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-in-One Wireless Printer – Best Alexa Compatible Printer For Envelopes

If you like to have some of the most recent technological innovations, then this printer might be of interest. Let’s take a look at that later and look at the essential functions first.

At some levels of its performance, it is quite ordinary. It has a futuristic design but some quite non-future results. It has an input capacity of 225 sheets but only prints sixty pages at once. The print speed is not going to set any records either. It is not the quickest you will find at 18 ppm for black and white and ten pages for color.

Reasonable performance, though…

It is an all-in-one printer, though with copy, scan, and fax facilities. It also has an automatic feeder that holds up to 35 sheets and a double-sided print function. For operation, it has a touchscreen though this is relatively small at just over two and a half inches. Its performance in terms of cost per page is slightly below the standard rate, but it will print about 315 color pages and 300 black and white before you need a refill.

It will generate up to 20,000 pages per month comfortably, which is an exemplary output level at this price point. It will also support a variety of print sizes, including Legal paper and specialized print for envelopes.

Voice command…

Connections are good, and you can use your phone or tablet to operate print procedures. It is here that we see the innovation we mentioned. This printer can print directly from your phone or device using voice commands, which is handled through Amazon’s Alexa system. This printer is one of the latest to feature this option.

If you want an all-in-one printer that gives you a decent print quality at a competitive price per page, this is just an option. If you want that, plus envelope printing, this machine will offer that. But if you want a bit of modern tech on top, this is well worth a look. Set at a remarkably reasonable price point, this is a good printer with many useful features.

HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-in-One Wireless Printer

Our rating:3.8 out of 5 stars (3.8 / 5)

Pros

  • Some good features.
  • Cost-effective price point.
  • Voice commands through Alexa.

Cons

  • Print speeds are rather slow.

5 Canon imageCLASS LBP162dw Monochrome Laser Printer – Best Linux Compatible Printer For Envelopes

Over the years, Canon has created a reputation for themselves. They make quality products that work, and they do it at a sensible price. This is a monochrome printer that goes a long way to enhancing that reputation. If you’re looking for a printer that’s going to work all day, this is going to be on your list.

It is a monochrome laser printer that will give you about thirty pages per minute, and it will do that comfortably, day in and day out. This model will also print on a variety of paper sizes, from A7 through standard A4, to Legal size. It is also going to take on envelope printing without a fuss.

And, it can handle high volume…

It can print up to 250 sheets on a single run and has the capacity for 23,000 pages from one print drum. The machine is fitted with both a paper drawer and a multi-purpose tray located at the front. Envelopes can be loaded into the tray or fed manually. It is not possible to give you a number for a continuous envelope print run, as this will depend on the envelope’s thickness.

For a high volume workload, you will find it hard to find a better machine than this at this price point. That makes it a printer to consider as one of the best high volume printers for envelopes.

Linux compatible…

It has good connectivity with built-in WiFi and Ethernet. This is as well as WiFi direct and Canon’s dedicated apps for iPhone and Android. It also has Linux compatibility.

An excellent all-round machine providing you don’t need color printing. But this is designed for an office rather than home use.

Canon imageCLASS LBP162dw Monochrome Laser Printer

Our rating:3.9 out of 5 stars (3.9 / 5)

Pros

  • Good features.
  • Decent print speed and functions.
  • Prints a variety of paper sizes and envelopes.
  • Great price point.
  • Linux compatible.

Cons

  • Black and white only.

6 Epson EcoTank ET-2720 Wireless Color All-in-One Supertank Printer

This is a model from Epson that carries the famed ‘Eco’ label. It is, of course, quite a fashionable appellation to give to some products. It is called an all-in-one printer, which in itself is not wholly accurate as it doesn’t have a fax facility. That should be one of the features you find in an all-in-one printer.

So, we suppose this is not an all-in-one, for some…

The ink tanks are located at the front of the printer and are part of the ‘Eco’ claims. What that means is a loosely worded message to say only use Epson ink. Others might not work correctly. It is a compact, that is, a small printer that claims easy navigation with its 1.44-inch display.

It doesn’t have the function of double-sided printing. That is one ‘Eco’ facility Epson seems to have failed to include.

It has good connections, though…

You can use your compatible phones or tablets to generate print, and it has WiFi direct.

You might suspect we are a little disappointed with this printer. We have always considered Epson to be one of the leading printer manufacturers. However, they seem to have missed the boat with this one. In fact, at this price point, we are stuck trying to find one thing that can justify the price. We can’t find anything. It has fewer functions than printers that cost half as much.

Not impressed at all, we are sorry to say, and, for us, definitely not one of the best printers for envelopes.

Epson EcoTank ET-2720 Wireless Color All-in-One Supertank Printer

Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • Connections are just about adequate.

Cons

  • Too many to list, really.

7 HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One Wireless Printer – Best Budget Home Printer For Envelopes

Now, this is an all-in-one printer. It has its Copy and Print, Scan, and Fax features built-in. Wireless printing puts you in control over your printing from your phone or your device, from the HP Smart app. In fact, the app will manage quite a large percentage of what you need to do, including scanning and retrieving documents from iCloud and similar based storage systems.

You can even order your toner…

The print quality it produces is quite good, especially considering the price point of the machine. It will print in black and white and in color. Though, the color prints are probably its weak point and not what you might be hoping for. When in use, it has a quiet mode option to reduce any noise, but it is also not the fastest printer you will find. It will print about eight and a half pages in black per minute and six pages in color.

For home use on a budget…

It is a budget system, as is reflected by the price point, and is designed really for very light home use. It measures 14.33 by 17.72 by 8.54 inches and weighs about twelve and a half pounds. This printer will print a modest range of paper sizes but does include Legal and envelopes.

There is a small touch screen for manual usage and an automatic document feeder that will hold 35 sheets. The input tray will hold 60 sheets and print up to 25 pages at a time.

As we said, very much a budget printer for the home. The price point is about right for that.

HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One Wireless Printer

Our rating:4.1 out of 5 stars (4.1 / 5)

Pros

  • All-in-one printer.
  • Very cost-effective printer for home.
  •  Envelope capability.

Cons

  • Limited print options.
  • Some will just need a higher spec of printer.

8 Canon Office and Business MX922 All-In-One Printer – Best Printer For Elaborate Envelopes

Back we go to Canon for the last look at a printer with envelope printing capability. Canon is one of those companies that you can rely upon to give you a reliable, functional printer. But in the context of what we are looking at, this printer goes a stage further.

Best printer for fancy envelopes…

Not only will it give you a high quality of print performance, but it will also print even the most elaborately created envelopes. You don’t even have to sort them by size or shape. When using the automatic document feed, the machine will sort them for you.

In fact, this printer comes with many useful features. It has a built-in LAN and has AirPrint, which means you can print from any of your compatible devices. It will deliver up to 15 pages per minute, which is a decent printing rate for such a machine. And the automatic sheet feed can reach 100 pages. But it isn’t just the speed; it is the quality of reproduction that is impressive.

Up to 9600 by 2400 dpi…

The color printing is impressive, thanks to a six-color ink system. There are also options to add filters to your photos at printing. This and other features can be accessed and performed by the impressive five-inch LCD touchscreen. It also has double-sided printing.

This printer measures 19.4 by 15.6 by 9.1 inches and weighs 25.7 pounds. Whilst it can be used at home, it is clearly designed for a small to medium office. The connections are good, and it is Bluetooth compatible. As added extras, it has an adjustable expandable tray for output and a memory card slot.

Impressive…

As usual, Canon has produced a quality printer. But this machine takes that a stage further in quality of print and features. We have mentioned many of the extra features, but we should also remind you this is an all-in-one printer. It copies and prints either by wireless connections or from USB, and it also scans, to PDF if required, and has a fax facility.

A very good machine with lots of great features. And all at a very competitive price.

Canon Office and Business MX922 All-In-One Printer

Our rating:3.6 out of 5 stars (3.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Lots of print features.
  • Excellent color reproduction.
  • Good envelope printing options.
  •  Very good price point.

Cons

  • None.

Best Printers For Envelopes Buying Guide

This is never an easy decision because there are so many options available. But one of the first questions you will need to ask yourself is…

Laser or Inkjet?

Epson EcoTank ET-2720 Wireless Color All-in-One Supertank Printer

There is an automatic assumption that laser printers are better, but it depends on what you want. Laser printers tend to give you the extra speed of print, but they do sacrifice a bit of quality. Inkjets are the reverse. They are considerably slower but will typically produce better quality. However, laser printers are cheaper to run despite the initial outlay as they are faster and consume less ink.

Monochrome or Color?

Depends on your usage. For an all-round printer, color is usually better. That is unless you know that this is a business machine only, just for pagination and envelopes. Then it will probably be more cost-effective to use monochrome.

The Budget

Epson WorkForce WF-7720 Wireless

With printers, it is always a good idea to think about usage. On top of the cost of the machine, you do need to consider the ink costs. Perhaps even look to see how many sheets can be produced by a single toner or a print cartridge, though, knock a bit off for safety sake. Some of the manufacturers’ claims can be, shall we say, optimistic.

Some machines will cost less, of course. In the long run, as we said, laser machines can be cheaper. But this is only if you are punching out a lot of copies, and it would be a costly set up for just a few copies at home. Also, as we hinted at, consider the quality you need in reproduction.

There’s lots to think about, but there is bound to be a machine that suits you. We have looked at some excellent devices here from respected manufacturers, and there is sure to be one that fits the bill.

What Are The Best Printers For Envelopes?

We would need a good quality envelope printer, but it would also need other features. We’d want an all-in-one machine with a reasonable, rather than fast print speed. But we would need quality printing on the envelopes. We would go for an Inkjet machine because our print numbers would not be that high. Therefore, we’d choose the…
