1 Alienware AW3420DW – Best Curved Ultrawide Gaming Monitor

This is the perfect Ultrawide monitor that works great for both work and gaming, even though it is best used for gaming.

The AW3420DW is the newest model from Alienware and has an outstanding resolution (3.440 x 1.440), as well as a really nice design using the latest Alienware Legend design featuring AlienFX. And the attractive RGB lighting that comes with the monitor and the easy-to-use menus are designed so that anyone can take advantage of it.

Great for multitasking…

Its large 21:9 screen gives you an outstanding gaming experience. It also gives you the possibility to have multiple windows open at the same time, which makes it ideal for multitasking.

It works well for media consumption, but the monitor’s contrast ratio is a bit low and makes it unsuitable for dark room viewing, and unfortunately, it does not support HDR.

Getting better all the time…

Alienware has, however, improved this monitor from their last version, which makes the AW3420DW even better than its predecessor.

As you would expect from most gaming monitors, this has a high refresh rate, a very low response time of only 2ms, and a low input lag. However, we find that the list of other features is rather short. Regardless, this is definitely one of the best ultrawide monitors available on the market today.

But there is room for improvement…

The biggest downside is that the price tag is pretty high, and this could well be too expensive for people looking for cheaper widescreen monitors. Plus, for an ultrawide monitor at this price point, we would have loved to see another display port. It is limited to two ports, which for us, is kind of a red flag. Also, including a USB-c connection would have also impressed us.

Regardless of all these concerns, we highly recommend this ultrawide monitor, especially if you are looking for a quality gaming monitor.

Alienware AW3420DW

Our rating:4.7 out of 5 stars (4.7 / 5)

Pros

  • Excellent image quality.
  • Awesome design.
  • Low response time.

Cons

  • Expensive.
  • Could do with more ports.
  • No HDR support.

2 ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q – Best Designed Curved Ultrawide Gaming Monitor

The new Asus flagship, the Asus ROG Swift PG348Q, is a massive curved widescreen monitor and is designed for serious gamers. However, it also works very well for general work duties.

It features a 34-inch 3440 x 1440 Ultra-wide QHD panel. This allows you to experience greater details either when you are gaming or if watching a movie. Along with its 3,800R curvature radius, it makes you feel closer to the action than you would with a regular flat-screen monitor.

You’ll need some extra speakers…

However, what surprised us the most is that this ultrawide gaming monitor is only equipped with a weak pair of 2-watt stereo speakers that are insufficient in both bass and volume. Compared to other widescreen gaming monitors that usually offer at least 7-watt stereo speakers, this is a massive blow. Especially considering the pretty steep price tag.

It is, however, as already mentioned, a good mixed-use monitor that has some really nice gaming-features. So, if you are a gamer, you will love the low input lag, the fast response time, and the NVIDIA G-SYNC support.

Use it at work…

Both the widescreen format and the high resolution makes it ideal for office use. With the design allowing you to position two full-sized windows next to each other, which makes it great for multitasking.

However, if placed in a dark room, you will notice that it has bad black uniformity, as well as the color accuracy and white balance being really disappointing.

Looks very cool…

The design is really nice and would appeal to most people. Asus put a lot of work in the finishing touches of the stand that gives it a unique and cool look. The stand is solid and well built and can easily be adjusted to your ideal viewing position. The only negatives are that it cannot rotate into a portrait orientation, and the legs are pretty wide, so it takes up a lot of space on your desk.

All in all, this is one of the best designed ultrawide monitors available today and is a good choice for anyone who wants their desk to look ultra-cool.

ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q

Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • Premium gaming experience.
  • Sleek design.
  • Great all-around performance.
  • Nvidia G-Sync technology.

Cons

  • Bad black uniformity.
  • Only two video inputs.
  • Low powered speakers.
  • Expensive.

3 Dell UltraSharp U3415W 34-Inch Curved LED-Lit Monitor – Best Ultrawide Editing Monitor

Next up, we have the Dell U3415W ultrawide monitor with not only has an incredible performance but also packed with features.

The U in the name stands for Ultrasharp, and this ultrawide monitor is intended for professionals that demand highly accurate colors, a strong contrast, and solid ergonomics. This widescreen monitor is very appealing to video-editors or anyone that can use the extra space, for example, with long timeline views.

Rich and accurate colors…

The 34-inch, ultrawide, curved display gives you enhanced panoramic viewing, and it uses In-Plane Switching that really gives you rich, accurate colors and a very solid gray-scale performance.

This monitor is quite expensive, but you do get a lot of monitor and great performance. The wide viewing angles are amazing, and the colors really make it worth the high price tag, which makes it one of our top picks.

Plenty of connections…

And unlike our first two products, we cannot complain about the number of ports. This comes with numerous I/O ports as well as a USB-hub. It also has various video inputs so you can connect through a Mini-DisplayPort, DisplayPort for daisy-chaining, or through HDMI 2.0. Not many competitors offer HDMI 2.0, which makes this the most significant addition.

It also features an MHL for attaching mobile devices, and in the rear, you have four USB 3.0 ports.

Is bigger better?

Dell usually has a very standard design, but the U3415W just takes it to a whole new level, which actually makes this 34-inch panel look even bigger than it already is. It comes with a solid VESA stand that offers tilt, swivel, and height adjustment. However, because the panel is so wide, it can’t be changed into portrait orientation.

The two integrated 9-watt speakers give you a decent volume, but they lack a bit in the bass frequencies. However, they do provide a very good all-around sound.

Dell UltraSharp U3415W 34-Inch Curved LED-Lit Monitor

Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • Accurate brightness and sharpness.
  • Full-featured OSD.
  • Curved screen.
  • Excellent Viewing angles.

Cons

  • Minor gamma flaws.
  • Expensive.
  • No side-mounted USB ports.

4 Samsung 49-Inch CRG9 Curved Gaming Monitor – Widest Ultrawide Monitor

This 49-inch gaming monitor puts a new meaning to ultrawide monitors. It is absolutely insane and has a 5120 x 1440 resolution and HDR 1000. It is, to be fair, very expensive, but with the specs it has, we reckon it has to be.

Monitors like the Samsung CRG9 are in a league of their own, so it can be hard to compare them to other monitors. This is not simply a 21:9 monitor; this is something completely different. If you are looking for a gaming monitor with an aspect ratio like this, this is the sort of money you would need to spend.

Expensive, but worth it…

Honestly, it takes a serious enthusiast to go out and buy this monitor due to its price and its enormous size. You also need a very powerful PC to actually get it running. However, if you can afford it, it is easily one of the absolute best gaming monitors we have ever tested.

The CRG9 is a huge monitor, and it was almost too big for our average-sized desk. It measures in at an incredible 1,198 mm wide. That is almost 4 feet, which nearly as tall as most teenagers. So, if you decide to buy this monitor, we recommend you do some measuring first.

Picture in picture…

We fell in love with the picture by picture mode, which for us, was one of the cooler features of the monitor. When enabled, you can use two different inputs, which simulate a dual monitor display. And the coolest part is that there is no border in between. We actually ran our MacBook pro next to the gaming PC. However, this would work for a gaming console as well, like a PS4.

The ports on this monster are all on the back of the screen. Samsung smartly puts them in a port alcove, which is covered by a removable shield. You can fill up every port and the hole in the shield channels all the cables, so you don’t have cables lying around everywhere.

Quality comes at a cost…

The Samsung CRG9 is very expensive, and there are actually a few things we would have like to seen, due to the high price, like local dimming, for example. But, all in all, this is a beast with a truly unique experience and a fantastic picture quality.

Samsung 49-Inch CRG9 Curved Gaming Monitor

Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • HDR 1000.
  • Gorgeous screen.
  • Amazing contrast ratio.
  • Quantum dot technology.

Cons

  • Expensive.
  • Very big.
  • Requires a killer gaming PC to run.
  • No built-in speakers.

5 Samsung 34-Inch SJ55W Ultrawide Gaming Monitor – Best Value for the Money Ultrawide Monitor

The Samsung SJ55W is a perfect monitor if you are looking for a high-quality, ultrawide monitor at an affordable price. The max screen resolution is 3440 x 1440, and the refresh rate is 75Hz with a response time of 4 ms, which is more than enough for the average gamer.

Thanks to the very good performance, this monitor is ideal for everyday use, no matter if you are watching movies, doing professional work, or gaming. You have a few options for decent connectivity, two HDMI ports, and one DisplayPort. But you do get AMD FreeSync support.

Not as quick as some…

There are, however, signs of ghosting because of the response rate of 4 ms when you play fast-paced games. So, if you are mainly playing these types of games, we would recommend another ultrawide monitor with a quicker response rate.

The Samsung SJ55W offers split-screen functionality and includes a VA panel with 8-bit color depth and a very good 3000:1 contrast ratio. However, the 75Hz refresh rate, the 178-degree viewing angles, and the 300nits of brightness make it well worth your money.

A great all-rounder for the price…

It is really pleasant to use for work because of the performance of the monitor, which delivers a very crisp image with deep blacks and a great level of detail. It also has plenty of screen space.

Overall, the picture quality is excellent, considering the price for this monitor, which makes this ultrawide monitor perfect for productivity, multitasking, and other office related work.

This is, by far, one of the most affordable 1440p ultrawide monitors on the market, which makes it a great choice for everyday use.

Samsung 34-Inch SJ55W Ultrawide Gaming Monitor

Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Good value for the money.
  • AMD FreeSync.
  • Crystal clear image.
  • Plenty of screen space.

Cons

  • Ghosting during fast-paced games.
  • Tilt-only design.
  • Narrow FreeSync range out of the box.

6 Acer Predator Gaming X34 Pbmiphzx Curved 34″ UltraWide QHD Monitor – Best Gaming Ultrawide Monitor

Next, we have an Ultrawide monitor with an aggressive design and fantastic gaming features. So, if you are looking for one of the best gaming monitors on the market today, Acer Predator is definitely one of them. The X34 features a 34-inch curved screen, 3440 x 1440 resolution, and a Zero-frame design.

The X34 only has two video inputs. However, it is loaded with gaming-friendly features, which include aim points, customizable game profiles, and awesome LED lighting effects.

Takes care of your eyes…

The IPS display is NVIDIA G-SYNC supported and has a refresh rate of 100Hz, which you can overclock to 120Hz if needed. The response rate is 4 ms, and the X34 has the Acer VisionCare technology to protect your eyes during long gaming sessions, which is a huge plus.

You are able to connect to a wide range of devices because of the four USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, and a DisplayPort. But, to be honest, we would have liked to have seen some more ports.

Improve your accuracy…

If you are a gamer, you will appreciate the Aim point feature, which will help you to improve your shooting skills, and offers three different aiming targets which can be used with FPS-games.

The performance is excellent, and the colors are spot-on, making it one of the best ultrawide monitors for gaming that we have ever tested.

Gaming at its best…

We would, however, had liked to see something more for the steep price, especially regarding the connectivity and audio. But overall, it is easily one of the best ultrawide gaming monitors available today, and it gives you a truly amazing gaming experience.

Acer Predator Gaming X34 Pbmiphzx Curved 34

Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • Cool design.
  • USB hub.
  • Gamer-centric settings.
  • Supports G-Sync anti-tearing technology.
  • Excellent performance in testing.

Cons

  • Expensive.
  • Only two video inputs.
  • Underpowered speakers
  • Needs lots of desk space

7 BenQ EX3501R 21:9 Ultrawide Curved QHD Monitor – Best Ultrawide Monitor for Smooth Gameplay

The BenQ EX3501R is a unique ultrawide curved gaming monitor that has loads of exclusive features. These include Brightness Intelligence Plus technology, entry-level HDR, and a USB-C port. And if this is not enough, the rest of the specs are just as incredible, such as the 3440 x 1440 resolution and the AMD FreeSync up to 100Hz.

There is so much to like about this widescreen gaming monitor. And its sheer size, the ultra-wide aspect ratio combined with the high resolution makes it a monster for gaming, as well as for work. The HDR support, although not perfect in windows (where we encountered some flaws), is a great addition to gaming.

Connections for everything…

There is just an abundance of ports, something that we would have liked to see on some of the other monitors in this review. You have two HDMI ports, two USB 3.0 ports, and one DisplayPort in addition to the USB-C port.

The image quality is crystal clear thanks to the high-contrast VA panel and the 1800R curvature. If that was not enough, the low lag rate and 100Hz refresh rate ensures that you have a smooth gameplay performance.

Reduced flicker…

For us, one of the best features, in addition to the flicker-free screen and the low blue light filter, is that the EX3501R monitor effectively prevents eye fatigue and headaches if you are sensitive to screen flickering.

If you happen to have an AMD FreeSync compatible graphics card, you can eliminate screen tearing and stuttering. The FreeSync range mounts from 48Hz – 100Hz in both the HDMI and DisplayPort. And should your FPS rate drop to under 48Hz, the LFC (Low Framerate Compensation) kicks in to save the day by doubling the frames – 47 FPS – 97Hz.

Great for graphics…

Overall, the BenQ EX3501R is an excellent gaming monitor, but it is more suited for those who prefer better graphics and visuals then competitive gameplay.

BenQ EX3501R 21:9 Ultrawide Curved QHD Monitor

Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • High-quality image without ghosting or tearing.
  • Immersive experience.
  • Perfectly balanced contrast and brightness.

Cons

  • No G-SYNC.
  • No internal speakers.
  • Not Vesa compatible.

8 LG 34GL750-B 34 Inch 21: 9 Ultragear Curved Wfhd – Best Performing Ultrawide Monitor

The LG 34GL750-B has a lot of features, including AMD FreeSync, 1 ms motion blur reduction, and HDR. However, the HDR only functions via software support, which means that the display does not actually improve the HDR image quality. It can only accept and display the HDR signal, making it nowhere near as useful.

The performance is, however, excellent, and the 34GK750-B is fully G sync and FreeSync compatible. The images are vibrant with accurate colors, and it just looks amazing.

A nice wide view…

This ultrawide monitor is equipped with a 2560 x 1080 IPS panel. It has a 144Hz refresh rate and 8-bit color depth, as well as 300nits of brightness. The reasonable contrast ratio of 1000:1 and 178-degree viewing angle improve the viewing experience because you get a wider field of view in games, and it also provides extra horizontal screen space for other use.

The not so great 5ms response time is a downer. However, because of its numerous enhancement features like the 1ms motion blur reduction and the FreeSync, its performance is ghost free. So even gamers that prefer fast passed games can fully enjoy this monitor.

The ports…

Unfortunately, this widescreen monitor only has one DisplayPort and two HDMI ports. That’s not a lot, but it is still more than enough for most users.

Overall, it is a very good monitor, and if you are attracted to fancy but efficient features, this is the monitor for you. The price could be a bit lower, and the HDR is pretty much useless, but other than that, it is a very good ultrawide monitor.

LG 34GL750-B 34 Inch 21: 9 Ultragear Curved Wfhd

Our rating:4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • 1ms Motion Blur Reduction.
  • G Sync and FreeSync support.
  • Accurate colors.
  • Low input lag, quick response time, and high refresh rate.
  • Plenty of excellent gaming features, including FreeSync.
  • Height-adjustable stand.
  • Vibrant colors and wide viewing angles.

Cons

  • HDR is software-enabled only.
  • Low pixel density, but it’s sufficient for entertainment purposes.

9 Philips Brilliance 499P9H 49″ SuperWide Curved Monitor – Best Professional Super-Ultrawide Monitor

The Philips 499P9H costs more than most people would like to spend on a monitor. However, it is a practical choice for professional users. It comes with a ton of extra built-in features like Windows Hello-ready camera and excellent connectivity options, which sweetens the deal.

Therefore, if you are looking for an excellent super-ultrawide monitor for work and design, the Philips 499P9H is one of the top choices on the market.

A serious investment…

Philips put a lot of care and work into the design, which shows. With its large curved screen, high native resolution, and spot on color coverage, it is absolutely perfect for multitasking and handles both photos and video really well. However, with the high price tag, you must see it as an investment.

The 49-inch vertical alignment (VA) panel in the Brilliance 499P9H has a resolution of 5120 x 1440p. This is the equivalent of two 27-inch QHD monitors placed side by side, for an extra-wide 32:9 aspect ratio.

Stable and robust…

A screen of this sheer size needs some serious engineering, and to be honest, Philips delivers for the most part. Assembling the stand was a bit nerve-wracking, just because of the size of this monitor, as well as the weight! But once you have it in place, the monitor feels both stable and robust, which says a lot considering the size.

We are talking 49 inches in a 32:9 aspect ratio, 5120 x 1440p, and a 1800R screen curvature. It is pretty hard to actually process the meaning of these crazy numbers but trust us when we say that it is pretty amazing. It is also packed with features.

Smooth as silk…

To start, this ultrawide monitor or superwide monitor comes with an adaptive sync for smoother in-game performance, a USB-C interface, and not only does it allow you to drive the panel itself, but it also enables a docking function including an RJ-45 ethernet port.

What’s more, there is an integrated KVM switch, allowing you to connect two PCs while using a single keyboard and mouse. Another of our favorite features is the pop-up webcam with Windows Hello support for face-ID logins.

Vibrant colors…

The 499P9H is a VA rather than an IPS panel, which has its pros and cons. On the upside, the colors are very vibrant, and there is plenty of contrast – 3000:1 to be more precise.

This superwide monitor makes the most of its DisplayHDR 400 support. It’s not the full HDR experience, but it is still pretty awesome.

A professional monitor and a professional price…

Overall, it is a great monitor, but like we said earlier, very pricy and is more suited for professional work and design than for gaming.

Philips Brilliance 499P9H 49

Our rating:4.1 out of 5 stars (4.1 / 5)

Pros

  • Immense ultra-wide screen with 5K horizontal resolution.
  • Bright image.
  • Good color fidelity.
  • Supports HDR.
  • USB-C power delivery.
  • Built-in KVM switch.

Cons

  • On the pricey side.
  • Buttons, instead of a joystick, for OSD control.
  • Too big for some desk spaces.
  • Mediocre pixel pitch.
  • Very expensive.

10 MSI Non-Glare Ultrawide Freesync Curved Gaming Monitor – Best All Round Gaming Ultrawide Monitor

The MSI MPG341CQR is an ultrawide monitor made and designed with one thing in mind… gaming. It is the first VA-panel 3440 x 1440 Ultrawide gaming monitor with a native 144Hz refresh rate, yes you heard right – 144Hz.

MSI introduces a range of features to the MPG341CQR. Things that gamers didn’t even know they wanted, and it actually posts some remarkably low input-lag figures.

Fantastic value…

While the color results may not be ideal for designers and other creative professionals, and the HDR leaves a bit to be desired, this is still one of the best value ultrawide monitors on the market today.

The ultrawide aspect ratio, frameless bezels, and RGB lighting on the bottom and rear of the display shout gaming. The RGB lights on the bottom are configurable through MSI’s Mystic Light Engine. However, this is not an easy configuration, and to be honest, the fragmentation of the Mystic Light Software makes this a bit confusing.

But still, thanks to its high contrast ratio of 3000:1, rich colors, ultrawide aspect ratio, high resolution, and high refresh rate 144Hz, the MSI MPG341CQR gives you a very engaging viewing experience, while the AMD FreeSync and 1ms MPRT takes care of the performance. Add to that the premium design, unique features, and extensive connectivity options, and you a great monitor for the price.

Super-quick charging…

Connectivity is plentiful with two HDMI ports, one DisplayPort, and one USB-C port for video input, with the USB-C port also supporting charging. If that wasn’t enough, you also get three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one on the back, and two on the side. It also has a built-in 720p webcam which is placed at the bottom of the display. We guess they were thinking about streamers? Because it makes it less than ideal for video chats.

All-in-all this is an amazing monitor for the price and one of our absolute top picks. This ultrawide 34-inch monitor offers solid gaming performance with exclusive features and covers everything, and more a gamer could ever want.

MSI Non-Glare Ultrawide Freesync Curved Gaming Monitor

Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Innovative design and wide gamer feature set.
  • Very low input lag.
  • Low price for the features and quality.
  • Good color accuracy, which becomes even better when calibrated
  • Punchy VA panel
  • 144Hz refresh rate
  • Great gaming performance
  • Really strong overall feature set.

Cons

  • Overall HDR and movie quality is only ok.
  • Contrast ratio tested lower than advertised.
  • Built-in webcam is nifty but wrongly placed.

Best Ultrawide Monitor Buyer’s Guide

Except for your PC, the most important hardware is your monitor. If you don’t have the right display, everything you do will just seem dull, no matter if you are gaming, watching a movie, editing photos or videos, or even just reading text on your favorite websites.

There are certain things you should keep in mind when choosing a monitor, especially when it comes to ultrawide monitors. So. here is a list of what you need to know to buy the perfect ultrawide monitor for you…

What Is Your Main Purpose?

 LG 34GL750-B 34 Inch 21: 9 Ultragear Curved Wfhd (2560 X 1080) IPS 144Hz G-SYNC Compatible Gaming Monitor,Black

Is it for gaming, professional, or general use? If you are a gamer, you will prioritize low response times and fast refresh rates. Whereas professionals prefer color accuracy and screen width. While general users usually aren’t that picky but will often decide on a monitor with a VA panel that gives a higher contrast.

Panels: IPS or VA?

IPS monitors have a faster response time and will show colors better than VA panels, but VA monitors have the highest contrast out of the panel types. So, depending on what your main purpose is, you should choose a panel type that suits your needs. We should also mention that TN panels are faster and cheaper than both IPS and VA panels, but they give poorer image quality.

  • Size does matter!

Pixel density is important and has a big impact on the monitors’ quality. The pixels per inch (ppi) should not be lower than 109 pixels. If the resolution is lower on a bigger monitor, the monitor will have a lower pixel density. Also, size is a factor when it comes to ultrawide monitors. The largest 49-inch monitors will take a lot of space, are heavy, and are very expensive.

  • Resolution

Best Ultrawide Monitor To Buy In 2023 Reviews 1

High resolution gives you a better picture. The resolution tells you how many pixels a monitor has. 3440 x 1440 is the recommended resolution for ultrawide monitors. A monitor with QHD will improve your images even more, and 4K is even better.

  • Refresh rates

These tell you how many times per second the monitor updates with new information. The refresh rate is measured in hertz (Hz). The higher the rate, the better, smoother, and less choppy images you get. This is important if you are a gamer. Most gamers want a monitor with at least 75Hz, but as we said, the higher, the better, so 100-144Hz is optimal.

  • Response times

These are not so important if you are not a gamer. The response time tells you how long it takes for the monitor to change individual pixels from black to white. If your response time is high, you are likely to get motion blur whilst gaming or watching fast-paced videos. The highest acceptable response rate for a gaming monitor is 5ms, but some gaming monitors have as low a response rate as 0.5 Ms.

  • Curvature

The lower the curvature, the more curved the monitor. If your monitor has a curvature of 1800R which it means that the curved radius is 1800mm and is best viewed at a distance of 1.8 meters.
