1 IO Gear GWHD11 – Best Plug and Play Wireless HDMI Transmitter/Receiver

This device from IO Gear consists of a transmitter that looks a lot like a USB drive. Along with the transmitter is a small box that acts as the receiver. Plugging the transmitter into the output device and the receiver into the input device will wirelessly transmit both the picture and sound from one device to the other.

Up to three additional transmitters can be added, meaning the receiver can output up to four different devices. Great for homes, offices, and schools, now you can send data without the need for running unsightly cables.

Video and sound quality…

There is no complicated software or drivers needed; the device is completely plug and play. Once connected, a signal can be sent up to 30-feet (10-meters) from the transmitter to the receiver. All at up to FHD 1080p resolution and maintaining output sound quality.

A remote control is included for switching between devices if you decide to add extra transmitters. If one of those devices is a games console, you will be pleased with the low latency of less than 1ms.

Great for laptops…

If you plan to use this device for sending a signal from your laptop to an additional screen, there is a great feature. You can either mirror or extend the screen. Mirroring will show exactly the same as what’s on your laptop, while extending will offer more screen real estate.

The one thing we regrettably found missing on the device was a throughput on the transmitter. Without this, it means you can’t have both the output screen and the input screen active at the same time. An HDMI splitter can solve this, though.

IO Gear GWHD11

Our rating:4.1 out of 5 stars (4.1 / 5)

Pros

  • Compact transmitter.
  • Up to four devices on one receiver.
  • Low latency.

Cons

  • No throughput on the transmitter.
  • Signal struggles through walls.

2 JTech WEX200 – Best Wireless HDMI Transmitter/Receiver with Throughput

Missing the throughput on the previous device might have been a deal-breaker for you. Well, this device from Jtech offers a throughput, meaning you can keep watching on one screen while transmitting to another.

A longer transmission distance is also possible, although both the transmitter and the receiver are much larger. There are also two large antennas on each device to help boost that signal strength.

How far can it go?

This system is capable of sending a signal up to 200-feet (61 meters) in a straight line of sight. Not only can it send the signal a longer distance, but it can also be sent between 20-60 kHz, maintaining great frame rates.

A downside to the transmission is the audio compatibility. PCM audio is supported; however, Dolby Digital is not. However, PCM is the superior audio format due to not using compression to send its signal.

Videos or games?

Latency time is between 0.1-0.3 seconds, which is reasonable but not great. This makes the device suitable for video playback. However, it is not really suitable for PC gaming, especially first-person shooters or driving games.

Resolution options range between 480i and 1080p Full High Definition. HDbitT technology is built-in to the device that assists with maintaining picture quality, stability, and reliability. Overall, this product would suit both households and businesses well.

JTech WEX200

Our rating:4.3 out of 5 stars (4.3 / 5)

Pros

  • Up to 200-feet (61m) transmission distance.
  • HDMI throughput supported.
  • HDbitT technology improves picture quality.

Cons

  • Dolby Digital not supported.
  • Poor latency times for gaming.

3 Orei WHD-200 – Best 4K Wireless HDMI Transmitter/Receiver

All of the other devices so far have supported a maximum resolution of 1080p FHD. This product from Orei can support up to 2160p 4K UHD. Offering a clean design, with both the transmitter and receiver looking almost identical.

They both look kind of like a router with two large antennas sticking out each side from the rear. Along with the antennas on the rear, you will find the ports for the power source and HDMI input/output, and an IR detector.

Going the distance…

In a straight line of sight, the signal can be sent up to 330-feet (100-meters). This would be perfect for use in schools, churches, or even homes. The included IR remote receiver and blaster allows you to use the same remote as the source device too.

If using HDMI 2.0 and supported HDMI cables, it is possible to send a 4K UHD 60 Hz signal. This makes watching a 4K UHD Blu-ray movie or streaming Netflix from your PC or console possible in another room.

Is gaming possible?

While it may be useful for streaming YouTube or Netflix from your PC or console, gaming is basically a no-go. The latency of 0.3-0.5 seconds is just too slow for any true gaming use. Better only reserve this for video applications.

There is a full 1-year warranty for peace of mind, so you can be sure that the device is working correctly. Being constructed from metal instead of the usual plastic gives this product superior build quality.

Orei WHD-200

Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros

  • 4K UHD transmission possible.
  • Up to 330-feet (100 m) transmission.
  • IR receiver and blaster included.

Cons

  • Latency not suitable for gaming.
  • No throughput support.

4 Pakite P590 – Longest Distance Wireless HDMI Transmitter/Receiver

Boasting the longest line of sight transmission of all the products in this list of 492-feet (150-meters). Produced by Pakite, this transmitter and receiver pack can also send a signal through a wall up to 65-feet (25-meters).

Having a strong transmission makes this device suitable for home use, as you often require wall penetration. The package contains everything you need to get started, including transmitter, receiver, power adapters, HDMI cables, and an IR cable.

Useful features…

Having the IR cable allows for the extension of remote control functions. First, plug into the output device and place the IR module near the device’s IR area. Now when you point the remote at the transmitter, it will send the signal to the original device.

Instead of using the usual 2.4 GHz radio frequency to send the signal, this device can use the more stable 5 GHz frequency. This allows for less radio interference from other devices on the busy 2.4 GHz channel.

Stable and reliable transmission…

The available resolutions are between 480p SD and 1080p FHD. Plus, the maximum frame rate is up to 60 fps. That makes this device useful for DVD, Blu-ray, PC, and even projectors. The picture and sound quality are both stable and reliable.

Latency time is 0.3 seconds, which will not be great for fast-paced action games on a PC or console. Gaming is possible, but there certainly is a noticeable delay when making inputs through the controller.

Pakite P590

Our rating:4.3 out of 5 stars (4.3 / 5)

Pros

  • Long transmission distance.
  • IR remote cable included.
  • Dual-band radio frequency.

Cons

  • No 4K transmission.
  • Fast-paced gaming is not possible.

5 Nyrius Aries – Lowest Latency Wireless HDMI Transmitter/Receiver

If you are after a device that will be suitable for PC gaming or games consoles, then this may be for you. Featuring low latency of less than 1 ms, control inputs remain responsive, making gaming possible via wireless transmission.

Produced by Nyrius, this product has a line of sight transmission distance of up to 100-feet (30 meters). As with any radio signal, this will be reduced when having to penetrate walls or travel up to another floor level.

Uncompressed quality signal…

The signal sent by the device is uncompressed, which is what allows for such low latency. Instead of having to compress the signal at the transmission end and then decompress again at the receiver end, the signal is transmitted as-is.

This allows for a quality picture and audio signal. Resolutions of up to Full HD 1080p are possible. For the audio, you don’t need to worry about lost quality either. Dolby Digital is supported up to 7.1 channels.

And that’s not all…

One of those useful IR cables is included so remote control functions can be extended. This is great for use with devices such as Blu-ray players, DVD players, or set-top boxes, without having to return to the output device to make inputs.

This is not a dual-band radio frequency device. It does, however, use the less congested 5G frequency. Transmitting at 5.9 GHz, you can be assured of a reliable and stable signal for whatever device you are transmitting.

Nyrius Aries

Our rating:4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

Pros

  • Low latency great for gaming.
  • IR remote control compatible.
  • Uncompressed signal.

Cons

  • Less transmission distance than other devices.
  • Power adapters use different connections.

6 Nyrius Aries Pro – Most Compact Low Latency Wireless HDMI Transmitter/Receiver

Next in our Best Wireless HDMI Transmitters/Receivers reviews, and from the same company as our previous review comes the Nyrius Aries Pro. The Pro version has almost identical capabilities in a smaller, more compact design. The transmitter is only slightly larger than a USB drive.

There are two omissions from the Pro, though, the first one being the IR cable for remote control extension. The second is the passthrough ability on the transmitter. The advantage is the compact size of the Pro does make it more suitable for use with laptops and cameras.

Same great specifications…

All the same great specifications are still available, such as that low latency of less than 1 ms. Great for use with laptops for gaming, without the need for a bulky transmitter sitting beside your laptop.

You also retain the uncompressed signal, meaning your picture will have higher frame rates. The audio also won’t suffer from quality loss, and you can still enjoy full surround sound, compatible with Dolby Digital.

Automatic selection of the strongest signal…

The line of sight transmission distance also remains the same at up to 300-feet (100-meters). This distance will be reduced if having to transmit through solid structures such as walls or ceilings.

Using DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selecting), the device uses the 5G range between 4.9 GHz and 5.9 GHz. By automatically selecting the strongest signal in this range, a quality and stable signal can be maintained.

Nyrius Aries Pro

Our rating:4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

Pros

  • Compact design great for laptops and cameras.
  • Low latency of less than 1 ms.
  • DFS radio frequency technology.

Cons

  • No IR remote control extension.
  • No passthrough support.

7 Orei WHD100K – Best Full Feature Wireless HDMI Transmitter/Receiver

Just like the Nyrius, we have a second product from Orei that could also be considered the Pro model. Once again, featuring a more compact design, the transmitter is like a large USB drive, and the receiver is also relatively compact in design.

There is no passthrough support on the transmitter, making this device less useful for extending screens. It does, however, support the IR remote control extension, including the required cable.

A full-featured, compact device…

Low latency of less than 1 ms makes this wireless device great for use with gaming PCs and game consoles. The signal supports resolutions between Standard Definition 480p and Full High Definition 1080p.

A line of sight transmission distance of up to 100-feet (30-meters) is reasonable among these products. This product, in particular, does suffer greatly when trying to transmit through walls or ceilings, though.

Easily powered…

While the receiver requires a wall plug for power, the transmitter can be powered via USB. Simply plug the Micro USB to USB cable into one of your available USB ports on your PC or gaming console instead of needing an additional wall plug.

Transmission uses the less congested 5G radio frequency, meaning fewer signal interruptions. The portability of this product makes it perfect for use in presentations direct from a laptop or even a camera.

Orei WHD100K

Our rating:4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

Pros

  • Low latency great for gaming.
  • IR remote control extension supported.
  • USB powered transmitter.

Cons

  • No passthrough support.
  • Signal through walls and ceilings is not great.

Best Wireless HDMI Transmitters/Receivers Buying Guide

The need for running cables is now a thing of the past with all these great products currently available. Being able to extend a screen to another room can also potentially save having to purchase an entirely new device.

Some of these products perform some tasks better than others. That is why we have included this buying guide. So you can be confident the product will best suit your needs. Let’s now go through what you need to look for…

Screen Extensions

Nyrius Aries Pro Wireless HDMI Transmitter and Receiver to Stream HD 1080p 3D Video from Laptop

If you plan on extending a screen to another room, there is one crucial feature to look for. This is passthrough support. This will allow the output device to remain active while the signal is sent to the other screen.

If the product is missing this feature, you can get around it by purchasing an HDMI splitter. This can reduce the signal quality, though. It is also an additional purchase you need to take into consideration.

Gaming Purposes

If you wish to use one of these products for gaming, then low latency is a must. The best latency currently available is less than 1 ms. However, only professional gamers will really notice this level of latency.

Let us explain…

Having a low latency means that the time it takes for the signal to travel from the transmitter to the receiver is faster. The higher the latency, the longer the delay in responding to control inputs. Something that will be highly noticeable when gaming, but not when watching movies, TV shows, or presentations.
