Logitech G810 Orion Spectrum Review

The world of computer gaming continues to expand at a rapid rate, and gamers are demanding more from their equipment. Logitech, a well-known maker of computer equipment, has been listening to consumers for years and producing equipment to perfectly fit the needs of the market.

The Logitech G810 Orion Spectrum is a keyboard that is made for the serious gamer. So, we decided to go over its construction, capabilities, and look at the unique characteristics that separate it from many other gaming boards in our in-depth Logitech G810 Orion Spectrum review.

Let’s get started and find out if it’s the perfect keyboard to enhance your gaming experience…

Logitech G810 Orion Spectrum Review

Quick Overview

The G810 Orion Spectrum is a full mechanical keyboard with dedicated media controls and is completely programmable. Moreover, the specialized software, fast keys with Romer G switches, and superb ergonomics all work together to give you greater control and enhance your gameplay.

The ergonomics…

Constructed of durable plastic with a stiff frame, the G810 is a solid slim-lined keyboard that doesn’t flex when tapping on the keys. The keys are at a comfortable height with good spacing to allow your fingers to move naturally across the board.

On the underside are areas of non-skid padding that genuinely hold the board in place regardless of how you are hitting the keys. However, there are also flip-out risers that you can adjust to three different heights to make the board most comfortable for you.

Logitech listened and did away with the stiff connection cable. The board now comes with a USB cable that is internally connected and is braided to give it strength and flexibility.

Why it’s better…

The keycaps of the Logitech G810 have a matte texture that provides good grip and masks fingerprints. This texture also gives the etched symbol on the keycap a longer life from regular wear and tear.

The keycaps themselves sit atop Logitech’s patented Romer G switches. These switches are similar in their construction to the higher-end Cherry MX brown switches that you find in top-end mechanical boards. Similar in that they are linear and have a subdued ‘clack’ sound, which is about where it ends.

What else to know about the Romer Gs?

The Romer G switches are spring-loaded with a pressure rating of 45g and built to better house the RGB LEDs, which we will later speak about in more detail. They have a short actuation distance of 1.5mm with a tested and expected lifespan of 70 million keystrokes.

Another significant aspect is that the board is 26KRO, meaning that the alphabetical keys have rollover. Therefore, no matter how fast you type or if you press several keys at one time, they will register in the correct order to be read by your computer.

Personalization And Customization

Use the RGB to personalize your G810 using any of the 16.8 million colors that are available. As stated earlier, the switches and keys are designed to enhance how you see the lighting. They are structured so that the light goes through the center of the key instead of around it. This obviously focuses the light and prevents bleeding to other keys.

Choose preloaded patterns and color schemes or create your own. Simply download the available software from Logitech’s website, and you are ready to start personalizing your gaming keyboard.

The Software

There are many more applications that are possible with the software other than choosing or creating a color scheme. Moreover, the software comes preloaded with over 300 of the most popular game profiles. Plus, each of those can be personalized as well.

Is that straightforward?

Now, this takes a bit of knowledge, but if a game you like to play requires some complex series of actions, you can create macros. The software allows you to create and assign these macros to the f-keys and save them in that particular game’s profile.

You can lock and unlock keys as you see fit, as well as reassign keys to help you in your gameplay. Of course, when set to Gaming Mode, the keyboard automatically performs Windows lock, so that utility screens do not pop up while you are gaming.

Other features of the board…

Along the upper right-hand side of the G810 gaming-board are dedicated function buttons. These operate the mode, lighting on/off, media controls, as well as a volume rocker. However, Logitech did not skimp here; the volume rocker has a nice feel and isn’t loose while the buttons are firm and wobble-free.

Even though this is a gamer’s keyboard, Logitech decided to keep the design elegant and clean. There hasn’t been the addition of extra USB ports to attach a mouse or a phone for a second viewing screen. The keycaps are specific to the board and can not be replaced with third-party packs.
