Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum Review

Gaming is a big part of the computer world and is big business for individual gamers and companies. The choices of gaming gear are almost endless, and the functionality of that gear is just as broad.

Logitech, a top creator of computer peripherals, has developed the G910 Orion Spectrum keyboard for gamers. Today, we will talk about the construction, the highlights, and what separates this keyboard from the others.

So, lets’ find out if this is the perfect fit for you and your gaming system in our in-depth Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum Review…

Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum Review

Overview

The G910 Orion Spectrum is the second top-of-the-line mechanical gaming keyboard to come from Logitech. Having listened to consumers, they have made some physical as well as functional changes based on the Spark keyboard.

The board is RGB with some dedicated function keys and a whole slew of programmable keys. There are dedicated apps and software that can be downloaded to get even more control, create macros, and be able to dock your phone for altering your gameplay.

Let’s take a look at the details and learn why the Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum is at the top of the game…

Board Construction…

The board is constructed of plastic and comes in at a hefty 3.3 pounds, and stands 1.4-inches high. Adjustable fold-out support legs will give you different angles to suit your typing preference, and bottom skid pads help prevent slipping. The board is USB with a sturdy internally set cord that is over six feet long.

Attached to the front of the board is a palm rest that has been changed based on consumer suggestions. It no longer has that odd angular shape and simply runs straight across the board, making it more comfortable and user friendly.

But what about the keys?

The keycaps, which were odd and angular, have been changed for caps with a smoother surface and more rounded edges. Although there is no mention of N-key rollover, all of the 113 keys are anti-ghosting, so there shouldn’t be any random keystrokes. The keys sit atop Logitech’s patented Romer G switches that have a rating of 70 million + strokes.

The Romer G switches are unique in that they feel and sound somewhere between the higher-end industry-standard Cherry MX red or brown switches and, in a lesser sense, Topre switches. We referred to Topre switches, as they both have springs under the keycaps that give the switches a different feel. They have a pressure rating of 45g and an actuation distance of 1.5mm, across the keyboard.

What does that mean?

This translates to a semi-light tap with a quick response and less hand fatigue while gaming. The switches are also designed to prevent bleed and give a better backlight spread for a more vibrant display of the RGB LEDs.

A gamer’s dream…

The RGB colors on the Orion Spectrum are clean and crisp, and there is really good separation and over 16.8 million colors to choose from. They do the expected standard displays and patterns and can be adjusted to each individual key.

What is noteworthy about the RGB display is it can be programmed for up to 300 different gaming profiles. Use different colors to separate your left and right-handed key commands as well as any quick keys for programmed macros.

G-Keys…

That’s right; the Orion Spectrum has nine dedicated G-keys in which you can program macros to execute several actions with the push of a single key.

But it goes beyond that, as you can program the macros to be game-specific. Change the game, and the G-keys automatically change to how you programmed them for that game. The keys run up and along the top of the left-hand side for easy activation.

More keys…

Along with the G-keys are three M-keys that can perform 27 unique functions per game. You can assign your favorite games to dedicated keys and launch them from the press of a single button. The keyboard will automatically set up and display for that game.

Logitech did not forget about other uses and has also provided dedicated controls for media and music.

Operating And Programming

To make the G910 Orion Spectrum this fantastic, Logitech uses two dedicated apps for the programming and operation of the keyboard. Choose your colors and style the board to your specific tastes using the G-HUB app. This app isn’t just for design and style, though; it is where you set up your game profiles.

Select a game and give it a dedicated activation key. Create any macros that you would like to use in the game and assign them to the G-keys you feel are most suitable. Set the functions for your M-keys and choose the colors for your control keys. All of these will light up when the game is selected.

What else?

The other necessity is the Arx Control app. This app connects to an iOS or Android device and allows you to do some spectacular things. Set your tablet or phone into the keyboard’s adjustable holding dock and play working from two screens. Use the second screen to give you vital game stats, in-game information such as maps or other game controls.
